I have had numerous good experiences with China Emperor over the years, but last night's dinner was deplorable. I was entertaining my sister from out of town and wanted to order some "good" Chinese food. I raved about this place to her and she agreed. We ordered Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Mongolian Beef plus some soup and an order of bbq ribs.
Since both the Shrimp dish and Mongolian Beef were on the regular menu, not the vegetarian, I expected a nice order of MEAT and SHELFISH. What we got wasn't that at all. By the time she pulled out all the button mushrooms and I did on my entree, there were a few shrimp and a few scraps of beef in our food.
When Chinese restaurants start substituting worthless mushrooms and water chestnuts for the protein in the dish, this is a sign of frugality and low quality on the part of the establishment. These two items should be used sparingly as accompaniment, not a major portion of the entree. Both dishes were terrible.
Also, the bbq ribs were awful, large, greasy, full of fat, and little meat.
When I contacted the manager that same evening, he said "we always make it that way" and "I don't want to argue with you" and "next time you order, we can give you a free soup or egg roll". I hung up totally dissatisfied with the manager's response to a 34 dollar take-out order.major complaint.
I'm sorry China Emperor, you are sliding down a slippery slope to Chinese takeout mediocrity and I will not give another dollar to your establishment. There are already plenty of bad Chinese restaurants in Austin without adding another one to my list, which i did.
You have been warned.

I just moved from New York to Austin, I tried to look for a very good Chinese restaurant. My friends introduced China Emperor to me. I was very impressed the food so delicious and it is exactly like what I had in New York. The price is reasonable. I recommend you try this place.

Don't let appearances fool you. The food here is amazing, the prices can't be beat. The service is very good.
