I've been traveling up Highway 1 from L.A. to Washington since the 1950s. Got out of the military in the 1960s and stopped in to the Cookhouse on my way to Oregon. I've been up and down that road well over a hundred times in cars, motorcycles, and trucks and ALWAYS stop at the Cookhouse. It is more than a restaurant to me. That and the Carson house in Eureka. A trip isn't complete without visiting those two places. Eureka has changed a lot since the 1960s, but not the Cookhouse or Carson. I'll be back - hopefully. At 80, you never know.

Not only did I love the food, the atmosphere and the country, I dearly loved working at The Cookhouse!! All the employees and managers were wonderful to work with and meeting people from all over the world was icing on the cake!! Fondest memories!!!

We just had a dinner there that consisted of a party of 13. Waitress gove us only water and ice tea. We had to ask her for other drinks, she didn't offer what ever else they have. She did bring a beer for somebody who ordered a Pepsi and asked if somebody wanted it because she had to throw it away, and charged him for the beer. She brought our soup that was cold and salad. Never came back to see if we would like any more. Then our main food of fried chicken, which was cold and overlooked along with Pot Roast that was so tough you couldn't even stick it with a fork. We had 13 People and,she brought enough for everybody to have one piece of chicken and vent if it was a wing! Never came back to see if we wanted more chicken or crappy pot roast. Sh just brought our dessert. Which by the was was cake that you couldn't not even cut with a fork. We brought that to her attention and she said that there was another piece on the table. Now, I realize we were a big group, but she not only got a tip from us paying $18.99 a piece, we all paid $20.00 and he'd her keep the change. I know my husband and mys of will never go back to a place that charges that kind of money for such a crqppy, cold, tough meals again. I hope the owners read this, because Nobody Even Cared About How Our Meal Was!
