The absolute worst experience I have had in a restaurant in 50 years. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
The manager Luigi is the worst manager I have seen or come across in 50 years. The guy doesn’t care about service, quality or making a terrible situation his staff caused right.
I took my wife there for her 40th birthday with my son who is 11 years old.
We were seated and it took 18 minutes. For the waitress to come over and say hello and ask us about drinks.
Once she came over she takes our drink order. 15 minutes later she comes with two waters and olive oil but no bread. We ask her where our sons drink was and our cocktails. She leaves and comes back 5 minutes later with our sons sprite now over 30 minutes no drinks. We asked about our cocktails again. She comes back 5 minutes later with our drinks. So it took 30 minutes to get drinks and 25 minutes to get bread to go with the olive oil she poured.
The salads come about 35 minutes in nd she disappears again. I finally grab another waiter asking him to send the manager to us so we could speak with him about his terrible waitress and experience thus far. As I am speaking to the waiter he agrees that the waitress is horrible and she gets complaints all the time. Right in front of him, my son says dad look, “there is a 10 inch hair in my salad.” The waiter was embarrassed and apologetic. He finally got the manager Luigi to come see us. We tell him all this and the waiter tells him about the hair. Luigi has an attitude the one that we try and speak with him lie he didn’t care what we had to say. At this point we are all grossed out and upset that my wife is experiencing this on her 40th.
All he does is apologize and say I will take care of it.
Finally we pack up our food to leave and ask for check. My son couldn’t eat after seeing a huge hair in his food. I See the check and the manager Luigi only have us a free glass of wine. So I go see him to try and understand why he only gave us a glass of wine. He is at the front with an attitude the moment I approach him questioning him. He is saying that is All you get you ate the food. I told him my family did not because my son was grossed out and my wife was pissed and wanted to leave. I told him yes I ate the food and actually it was good. I told him I was just looking for the situation to be made right. I asked him why he isn’t comping my sons meal minimally and our drinks for such a terrible experience and he tells me that’s all I am doing sorry. I told him I was very upset at his attitude and that I would report this on social media. He said to me I don’t care we been here 26 years it won’t do anything to us. I said wow that is your attitude after all your terrible service, waiting time and finding hair in our food. He said why don’t you just leave. I paid the bill and we left. I would never go to this place again and I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone it was absolutely horrible and it’s from the top down. If a manager treats people this way then of course his staff does the same. That guy should be fired and that waitress should have much more training. I give donatos a zero F minus grade. Terrible place terrible staff.

I would not eat here again if it was free. The food was not good .I had chicken cutlet that tasted like cardboard. Not true Italian food in my opinion

Past experiences have been good, but todays experience was bad; salt shaker empty and had to exchange with empty table setting, house Fly's continued hovering and lighting on food and beverage glasses; waitress alerted to this but acted cavalier. Additionally, waitress behaved poorly while behaving annoyed with flippant remarks because of additional requests and ill informed of menu items; had to look up website menu on cell phone to prove point to waitress that we were not confused.

Very good Italian food and generous portions at reasonable prices. Not a big fan of their soup. Otherwise very good. By the way, Donato's does not make pizza. They own the restaurant next door that specializes in coal fired oven pizza. So the review criticizing Donato's pizza is bogus. because they serve pizza. Check their menu out if you do not believe me.

had pizza sent the first back it was burnt after telling them not to burn it the second was tasteless and crust was like shoe leather the worst we have ever had never go back

By far the BEST Italian restaurant not only in Port Charlotte but anywhere in the country. We are just so lucky to have them so closeby. We've been there several times, and the food is always mouth-watering delicious.
The atmostphere is also quite unique with a NYC subway turnstile then an alleyway that resembles a NYC subway station complete with the white subway tiles and the name of the subway stop. Then upon entering the seating area itself, you would think that you were in NYC's Little Italy complete with fire escapes with clothes hanging from them and fire hydrants, a pork store, stars embracing the ceiling and table all around the room. Very unique setting and completely comfortable.
The waitstaff is very friendly, and food is served in a timely manner. Can't wait to go back.
