Will not waste our time or money. First we seen the pepper grinder had mold in it, told waiter and he said manger apologies, then brings our hamburgers and I think it was 50% fat, frozen french fries that weren't even warm. Just a all in all bad meal...

review_stars 05/08/2011 - Mr. Local
Our family went there for a early mothers day dinner. The service was very slow and the menu was very limited. Its a bar and grill, there trying to make it more than it is. No simple meals at all. To many sauces with everything that are to over whelming. Not even a simple steak with simple sides. This is Florida we are known for our seafood and they did not have any seafood combos or just plain shrimp. Add more to the menu with simple meals you will do better. The music was pretty good though a bit to loud sometimes we couldn't hear each other to talk.

one word TERRIBLE! We had to find our own table the Host was busy while there was an empty table. I ordered the Big flippin burger it was terrible the bun was burned black and when i informed the wait staff they said sorry and walked away to make it worse we had a party of 6 and she recieved a $36.00 tip for nothing! Stay away from Flip Flops not worth the money especially.

I had read some really negative reviews on this restaurant. My daughter and I ate there today and i must say I dont know what problems anyone had but we were seated bt Erik the executive chef quickly. Our server Kevin was excellent, the food was amazing I had the cumin scented shrimp with watermelon pico degallo. was very good garlic mashed poatoes were perfect not too much garlic. Portions were perfect I had a lot of shrimp. Would gladly go again.

Tonight we had a delicious dinner at Flip-Flops.The cranberry blue cheese salad was delicious and the substantial portion of Ma-hi with fruit salsa was even better than the Ma-hi with champagne sauce, and was balanced with the pineapple risotto. Throw in a bit of ice cream with chocolate sauce, and we had about the best "early bird" we have had recently, and at a reasonable price.

A warning- take the hint from the name "Flip-Flops" . The restaurant building, which was once a quite sophisticated restaurant owned by opera singers, is now "casual". The staff is in tee shirts, not tuxedos, and casual rather than "hoighty-toidy".

So just sit back, relax and order a delicious meal, so what if you have to call the server's attention. ENJOY.

Went for dinner Feb 13 2011. Facility was half empty with a party going on on the other side. Although the place was half empty the manager said there would be a 20 minute wait. We left and they didn't care. As a matter of fact the manager was very rude

I Left a very negative review about my experience at Flip Flops. I wrote a letter to the restaurant regarding the experience and received a telephone call from the executive chef. He insists on making an attempt at changing that review and has offered a gratis meal for two. Unfortunately, the person that paid the check has left town. Chef said he was not there that day and had received other complaints. It is a reputable establishment that will make a wrong a right. I give it 4 stars because of that. Another review after the gratuitous lunch.

Hostess was doubling as bus person and service person not experienced, or they would know that it is not proper to present the check with a table full of dirty dishes. That is not fine dining as they claim. The soup was delicious but the fish lacked flavor and was recommended by the server. We used the sauce from the mussels to give it flavor. They didn't have a luncheon menu. Our check was well over $100. When I asked for a spoon for my coffee I was given a tablespoon with wet spots.
Drawing a circle of color around the entree does not make a restaurant fine dining as they claim. It was a farewell meal for my son and wife and it was very disappointing. There weren't many patrons and the couple of workers seemed overly distracted. I'm not recommending this restaurant to any of my friends.

As frequent visitors to New Smyrna, we were interested in trying out the "new" restaurant last year, Flip Flops. The food was excellent; so delicious we ended up taking our friends there and dining there four times during our 10-day stay. This year we are staying a month, and we eat there often, more than twice a week. Every dish we have ordered is well-cooked and seasoned. The staff are attentive and charming, even when busy. Our biggest problem is deciding on what to order. Our suggestion is that you try anything with the Champagne-Citrus-Ginger Sauce, the Peach Salsa Sauce, and the Watermelon Pico de Gallo and take time to savor every bite. Also try the potato pancakes or any of the risottos. Yum! Flip Flops has become not only our favorite restaurant in New Smyrna, but everywhere.

We love it. Amazing... Best tasting food in town. Starting with an unexpected pleasure of colorful chips and beans which is served at every table.
For dinner we had the mahi- it was cooked to perfection -it melted in your mouth. You can order any side with your meal. I had a side dish of Risotto. I make Risotto at home and here it was just like my own.
The crab dish was great also. We had a cranberry salad that was so delicious!
Music and atmosphere was excellent! 5 stars up for us . We will be back.

Mike was our Server, he was very courteous and helpful
We were very pleased with the food, the service and the atmosphere. We definitely will make Flip-Flops our restaurant of

The new Flip Flops on 3rd Street IS NOT THE SAME as the old place on over on Pine Street. Whole new ball game and I wish ball parks had food anywhere as good as this place. My wife and I love It to pieces. Never had anything that could even be considered as "off" or "undercooked" or "over cooked" or even "ill-prepared".. ever thing is top notch.

For those of go into a restaurant and just sit there and seem to get ignored by the staff... get off your butts and get up to the front desk or the bar and DEMAND TO SEE THE MANAGER. Even five star Michelin places can have an off -night..... waiters/waitresses/bar staff get sick... cooks/chefs get sick too... rather have them stay home than come in and make all the patrons sick too. When is the last time you walked out of a MickeyDs because the service was "Off"... never.... right ???

I dine at F/F every chance I get when down in my new hometown and will continue to do so.

Had the best salad and grilled mahi for lunch last week. The dressing was delicious.

I am a local and eat at Flip Flops all of the time. When ever I have company, I always recommend we eat at Flip Flop's. I have never been disappointed. The food is fantastic. Something for every one. The service is outstanding. My first server at the new place on Third Avenue was Joey and now I always ask for Joey. He is by far the best server I have ever had. He is courteous, friendly and extremely helpful when it comes to suggestions for my guests from the menu. Ask for Joey and you will see what I mean.

Visited this restaurant on our Spring Vacation to New Smyrna Beach. It was great. Live music the night we visited was fantastic. Especiall loved the BBQ Chicken Pizza. It was great. It was very busy the night we went so we had a short wait at the bar for our table. The bartender was fantastic. Great personality! Our server was very helpful with the menu and did an awesome job. Will for sure be visiting again next time we are in town!

Food and Service were great! Ask for Keith as your server, he adds that special touch!

Just visited for the 1st time, I can't say enough about the food, it was great!! I also loved the dueling piano they had. Thank You!!

Wednesday The Place was Not too busy.. we had been there a few times before. Only once when it first opened was the food Very Good and good service.. I thought i would try it again. We figured out we Never have to go back..(= The Worst Service! .including totally ignoring us in plain sight! I wanted very badly to stand up and walk out.. The prices are moderate for beachside but the quality and quantity on some dish's are not controlled well considering the price of a few of the dish's. If you are looking for consistency dining out you won't find it here. but,if you do dine here wear your flip flops, so at least you will be comfortable!

Went to Flip Flops today 11/6/09. Arrived at 5:50PM. Seated and was totally ignored until 6:10PM when we finally just got up and left. Not one person asked if we wanted a drink or introduced themselves as our Waiter/Waitress. Not even an offer for ice water. Poor service is to say the least. Menu prices were a bit high but was willing to give it a try. Lots of employees running around and people who came in long after us were waited on and still no one to serve us. Big disappointment as this was to be my Birthday Dinner. We left, no one could have cared less. No one asked why, not even the girl who originally seated us. We went to Outback, just down the street and were greeting promptly and our food was tremendous. Will never set foot in Flip Flops again. Unless you have time to sit and stare at others and liked to be ignored, avoid at all cost. Flip Flops, you disappointed us ! !

Food was great but the service was awful. We had a group of 9 and were there for 2 1/2 hours. Ridiculous!! It was not a busy night and the waiter could care less about the customers. I am a local and I will definitely not be going back.

review_stars 10/05/2009 - Mary
Great when it first opened, now its gone down hill. The food is great, but very poor service, the floor was very dirty from all you can eat crab legs, lots of waiters running around just chit chatting and just could not care less about the customers.l am local and its very close to my home, but l wont be going back,l like a friendly smile, and a Thank You when leaving, they need to have meetings on how to give good service to their customers.PS take a lesson from The Boston Fish House, now thats a very friendly place and beautiful smiling faces when you arrive, plus the best sea food in town....

Best food in New Smyrna Beach!

review_stars 09/30/2009 - MenuPix User
I have been to Flip Flops on many occasions and the food and the service was wonderful. I had the Mahi Gone Bananas, I had the fish cooked medium and it was icce and moise but not slimmy or undercooked just like the waiter suggested. The blend of flavors in the dish were wonderful between the blackened mahi the tomato relish and the key-lime coconut sauce that finished it off took the dish to a new level. The rizzoto I had for my side perfectly complimented the fish once again like my waiter told me. The salad was nicely perportioned and and very well presented I had the cranberry spring salad just to let you know. Everyone of the servering staff was great and had smiles on their faces which was nice as well. My girlfriend had a citrus-soy salad with blackened scallops and that looked and tasted absolutely wonderful. In short I am glad they made the move and I will be returning again

I'm from Orlando, and My girlfriend brought me here to eat for my birthday 2 days ago. This place was off the chain good. The first thing that was awesome was the fact they had german beer on tap! Not many places have a variety of high alcohol content beers on tap. Secondly, we ordered the jerk chicken Skewers. AMAZING!!!!! She ordered the Ahi Tuna, and I ordered a steak. The steak had a Blue cheese and Cranberry sauce on it, that was absolutely delicious! I give this place 10 thumbs up if all of my fingers were thumbs! Yummy food, good environment!

review_stars 08/31/2009 - kriss
On 8/31/09, for lunch we ordered a Caesar salad and Greek pita pizza. The salad was passable, though nothing special, and, therefore, somewhat overpriced. The pizza was tasty and appealing to the eye but poorly cooked: the cheese was not adequately melted but the pita bread was burnt black. We were very limited in time and did not have time to reorder...which we definitely would have done otherwise. Although the pizza crust was obviously dark black, it obviously still passed the kitchen exit inspection to be allowed on the floor and the waitress said nothing either when she delivered it or when she returned to the table.

Very poor quality control.

I loved Flip Flops at his old location. It was small so the food received a lot more attention and detail. I thought the prices were very reasonable for such eclectic tasy food. However, I have eaten three times at the new location and there is no comparison. I wouldn't say that the food was terrible but it is not as well prepared. The atmosphere is totally different. I loved the quaintness of the old location. I hope the restaurant is a success but if it is not and returns to its old location/ambiance I will definitely be eating there.

review_stars 08/14/2009 - MenuPix User
I read the reviews about this place and it makes me so angry! We went the first week after the move and I’ll admit it wasn’t our best dinning experience. We were regulars at the quaint little restaurant on Pine and knew it would get better. We went back ten days later and it was 100% better. It was very obvious to our group that the management and staff defiantly were getting a handle on their much larger location. With the exception to our firs visit, every time we eat there the food is unbelievable. We have been repeat customers almost every week since. Each time seems to be get better and better. That tells me the management truly cares. We have watched this place evolve into the same exceptional restaurant they had on Pine Street. Keep up the excellent work Flip Flops. And as for all you complainers, that have nothing else to do, stay home! It leaves more room for those of us that love the place.

Bahamian Lobster Tail =Excellent! 27 waiters, 7 bartenders, the hospitality & 2 4 1 vodkas will keep us comin' back again & again....Try the dirty maritinis. Eric in the kitchen and Albert on the floor is a killer combo!!!!

review_stars 07/20/2009 - Chloe
The lump crab cakes with mango chutney were very good. The combination of the hot crabcake with the cold mango was a joy. The pineapple/walnut risotto tasted very good, but was undercooked a bit. I thought the menu had a lot of interesting sounding items and will go back again to try something new.

have been coming to new smyrna beach for 14 yrs. and have eaten about everywhere. last july 4 of us went to flip flops...fairly new at the time. it was loud, pricey, and not one of us enjoyed our food. one had pizza, 2 had some type of seafood, and one had beef. now we are back this summer and what a shock to find that terrible restaurant had taken over where shell's (one of our favorites) was... how depressing and disappointing!!!! we never went back to the old flip flops on pine st. and for sure won't try the new one.

review_stars 06/14/2009 - tropicaloasis
Absolutely the worst dining experience I have had in my adult life. Went for lunch, the service was terrible and the food was even worse. I doubt anything on the menu is not frozen. Simply over priced poor quality food. I would eat from a McDonald's garbage can before I wasted money at this joke of a restaurant. Wonder what the little manager guy with the cocky attitude and the black eye has to be so arrogant about???

review_stars 06/09/2009 - Barbara M
Having eaten regularly at Flip Flops former place our group was extremely disappointed in the new facility. Feels like you are now eating at a "Dennys" as atmosphere has gone way done hill, far too long a wait and then they will call your cell phone to let you know your table is ready, very loud, staff only so-so, food was not of the quality we previously had and was only one step away from ice cold but hey after the very long wait and starving we would have eaten the table. Hope they can bring back the great vibe the old place had. I can go to Dennys to listen to kids yelling and sit in a booth. Have checked it off my go to restaurant list and at this point wouldn't recommend it. Sorry Flip Flops but you flopped.

After reading all the negative reviews below, I hope I went to the same Flip Flops...the old one on Pine Street and the new one that just opened in front of Publix. Each and every time I was there the food was terrific. I had good service, a friendly waiter or waitress, and I thought the food was very good getting just what we were paying for. The portions were sizable. The place was very clean and the decor was conversation material. No one rushed us out of the restuarant despite people waiting to come in. I tell everyone to go there. I know I will go back.

review_stars 05/24/2009 - MenuPix User
The food was delicious! The service was not so good! We had to prompt the server several times --to order, to obtain drinks refills, and at last to request the check. The service staff needs some help or training.

review_stars 05/20/2009 - Brenda and Ray
We went May17.2009. Had to wait about 30 minutes. Enjoyed talking to other guests. Were seated but waited a long time for our waitress to greet us and serve us. Ordered 1/2 order of baby back ribs and salmon. The salads were large but had to wait 30 minutes for them. The girl that was cleaning tables took our salad bowls away after sitting for 30 minutes. Only saw or waitress a few times going past. 4 or the waitress were talking and having a good laugh. Dinner came, large plate with a small portion of Risotto and the 1/2 rack was so small, not enough for a child. There was a small orchid on the plate. Would rather have the money for the orchid go to the food than something I would not eat. I hate going to a restaurant and spending $15.00 and leaving hungry. Salmon was good, but will not drive 1 1/2 hours to enjoy the beach and different dinning experiences. Will not go back.

review_stars 05/18/2009 - just a guy
I was a big fan of the old Flip Flops and wanted to say it was a big mistake to move and try something bigger. Bigger is not better. The whole place sucks now. Service is horrible, inside is still like Shell's and food is so boring. Winner of Hell's Kitchen and you serve sandwich's.

review_stars 05/11/2009 - Robert and Joan
We decided to try it as I had been following Hell's Kitchen. We went there on Mother's Day. Although very busy I would say service was acceptable considering how busy they were. That, however, was the only thing that was acceptable.
They are overpriced for this area. The food was not that good. In consideration of the price level there should be bread or rolls on the table. In consideration that this was Mother's Day they should have offered something for the Mother's a small flower or complementary dessert. All in all we will never go back as their food did not justify their prices.

review_stars 05/07/2009 - Armand & Pearl Nielsen
We winter in Daytona Beach Shores and have enjoyed every exceptional lunch and dinner we have had at Flip Flops.

Today we are thinking and pulling for you Danny and will be watching the show in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. We have thought from the first time we saw the show that you should win.

You are the phenomenal!
All the best, Armand & Pearl Nielsen.

review_stars 05/06/2009 - New Location Dinner
We couldn't wait to try out the new Flip Flops. We are fans of the Hells Kitchen show and thought it was pretty cool having Danny be part of a restaurant in our town. We wanted to give some support to a local guy and let's face the fact that we could use a few more great places to eat around here. Anyway, what a let down! They sat us quickly but no one showed up with drinks or a hello for at least ten minutes. We finally ordered drinks and an appetizer then dinner. After a thirty minute wait dinner arrived, they forgot the appetizer, and it looked terrible. I had a burger that was supposed to be a "cheeseburger in paradise" but apparently the kid cooking it didn't know the song because it was totally plain. Nothing but bun, burger and old frozen freezer burnt fries. The good thing was it only cost $15. I got off easy. My girlfriend didn't fair so well. She had a Shrimp salad that cost $20 that looked like they dumped a bag of mixed lettuce from Publix with 4 burnt day old shrimp on a skewer. Awful! Do yourself a huge favor and skip it until they get their act together if ever.

review_stars 05/05/2009 - New Flip Flop Location on Cinco De Mayo
My husband and I visited the new location which is much bigger. We were seated right away, despite it being Cinco De Mayo - but were disappointed that the band advertised on the road sign was nowhere to be found. In any case we were seated quickly as I mentioned, ordered drinks which took a while to arrive and then placed our order for a roast beef flat bread sandwich and salmon with key lime sauce and the pineapple/walnut risotto - both were delicious! The service was poor, as the waiter let our empty glasses sit and when pulled aside by us to beg for a drink to wash down meals, he forgot anyway and the drinks were on our bill. Apparently the lack of decent service is known about Flip Flops, so don't expect much byway of speedy service, but all in all the food was terrific, the place was full, and most everyone was friendly. And oh yeah, we saw Danny exit the kitchen so kinda cool, but the food is a good reason to go!

review_stars 05/04/2009 - Shelly
I too went here because I've followed Hell's Kitchen. Probably the only reason anyone would seek this place out. The old location was a dive and although we lived in the area, never ate there. The new place was less than inviting........as we waited in the "holding" area, we were told we could only have pizza..........$32 for a strip steak? That was a joke, right? We ended up at Blackbeards although the guy who went to Boston's made a good choice if you want fried food. I didn't see any thing that impressed me on Flip Flops menu. You got the hype, but I doubt a new bldg will offer much more with the service and menu the way it is.

review_stars 05/03/2009 - Richard
I wanted to try out the new restaurant as I have been following Danny on Hell's Kitchen. Walked in to put in my name and was ignored by one person. Finally added my name to list (30-45 minute wait) and sat down to read the menu. The bar was extremely noisy and very distracting. The menu is loaded with terms which seem only added to impress and confuse the clientele. I am very familiar with most cooking terms but had to google a lot of this menu. Sriracha Aioli? A roasted red pepper coulis and balsamic reduction? These opposite a "Big Flippin' Burger"??? At any rate, I ate across the street at Boston's Fish House. At least I knew the haddock was haddock.

review_stars 05/03/2009 - Bad attitude of bartender made experience sour
We went to Flip Flops on Sunday May 3, 2009 and ate at the bar. There were two bartenders, one was just wonderful, the other had just a rotten attitude. This attitude was a real turnoff and as the saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. In addition the food was a 3 out of 10 at best. we waited almost an hour for our dinner to arrive, I will not recommend this place to anyone.

review_stars 04/30/2009 - visitor
First I would like to say...the comment down below was absolutly incorrect! Each time we visit the food had been consistant, excellent flavor and beautiful presentaion. The prices I think are more than reasonable considering you are on beachside. We have had many apps that were all great, salads delicious and filling and the entrees we have had we were very satisfied. My huband and I think its one of the best in the area! We hope that Danny does well and will certainly return with friends when visiting!

i liked the short skirts that the female servers wore. nice undies!

review_stars 03/24/2009 - Adrienne Solomon
This place was amazing!!! The food was creative. We had the Mahi two different ways. We both cleaned our plates. The salad was fresh with cranberries, walnuts and blue cheese. We had the scallop appetizer and the salmon won-tons. Beer was only two dollars each. We walked out of there with all that food (completely in our bellies) for about $60.00. The service could have been better but there was no way the food could have been!!! They are moving to a new location because they are doing such GREAT business! Keep up the good work! We loved it!
Locals rule in NSB, FL!

Heard from a local about Flip Flops executive chef competing on Hells Kitchen. Decided to try it for dinner on Saturday night. Being in a party, beach town, I was drawn to the idea of a smaller more intimate restaurant. Walking in I was disappointed to see televisions on the wall, which took away from the charming feel of a small space with doors that expand the room outside. The restaurant light fixtures were chosen because of their look but were lost in the distraction of the t.v.'s. The menu didn't really have any idea of what it was trying to be. Roast beef sandwiches, chicken with Boursin cheese, german potato pancakes, ribs with a citrus bbq sauce. Meals were served with soup or a salad with too much stuff on it. The top sirloin was cooked close to my request, nothing I'd send it back for but the plate was smudged with the cornstarch thickened brown sauce poured over the top.
Bottom line is if you don't have too high of expectations this restaurant will probably be just fine. I hope the chef will walk away from H/K with some lessons on cooking and the fine art of being a restauranteur. The food and feel were what I expected for the town just not what I expected from the space.
