Our family decided to eat at A-Bays on New Year's eve, because we had enjoyed it 2 nights prior. It was not busy at all on this night, which pleasantly surprised us. Unfortunately our special holiday meal was a disaster. Our appetizers were delivered with no issues, we didn't receive our meals together in fact only 3 people out of 8 received their meals. My adult son wouldn't even let me try his chicken in the Korean Mixed Plate, it was over fried, dried and inedible. The other meals trickled out cold over time, the food was completely unacceptable so we asked to talk to the manager. I tried to explain to him our issues and we just wanted good hot food to eat together on NYE. He became very defensive and said he was doing everything he could, he was only one doing the cooking, doing the dishes etc. I felt attacked for bringing our issues to his attention. I He said he would comp some meals and replacement sauces came out again, and they were again cold. Our meal was awful, but we just tried to get through it with smiles, it was last night of the year and our last night in Waikoloa. Our poor server was doing everything she could and we had no issues with her or her service, and she seemed to be a little embarrassed to bring us the bill in the end. (The 5 star for service was for her) I understand why when we saw it; we were given 10% off of the entire bill, it felt like a slap in the face. We completely expected to pay for our drinks and our appetizers, but has assumed that the meals would be taken care of. Maybe that was too much to ask for, but being in the service industry myself for 40 years I did not think it was. The manager came out angry and confrontational when we asked for the entrees to be taken off and said he had to talk to the owner. On his second return he threw the bill down, said his boss said no and he would paying for everything out of his pocket. He was very angry and confrontational and that really surprised us by being so incredibly unprofessional. This experience definitely left a horrible taste in our mouth, and while we have decided to make Waikoloa a annual Christmas trip we will not ever be stepping back into this restaurant. I understand being understaffed, I myself have experienced that, but I can not accept the defensive attitude full of anger and vitriol.

Had delicious hamburger steak with gravy, onions and green onions...best meal on islands.
Excellent, prompt service. Good variety. Will go back daily until we fly out.
