I highly recommend Sammy D's! I am a local in Hawaii and love to try "hole in the wall", "mom and pops" type of places. This is one of the best little hidden secrets on the Big Island. Try the Korean Chicken or Roast Pork. Or the Salads are really large portions too. MUST TRY!!!
The staff is very friendly!!! True local style!

My wife and I dined here in December, 2009. The Mahi Mahi Burgers (sandwich, really) were excellent! The people here were so friendly and the local ambience is genuinely relaxing. We were referred here by a couple of locals and I would highly recommend Sammy D's, as well!

i dined twice last September at Sammy D's. it was excellent food! both times i ordered the Korean chicken with rice, mac salad and potato salad. meals are reasonably priced, service and the staff is the friendliest I've ever met. easy parking, no a/c. nice porch to dine on, too. lots of reading materials, and a TV with a DVD player showing local hula competitions. it was fun and i cant wait to return. now, if only i had the recipe for the Korean chicken...........
