No words can describe their food. Everything on the menu is AWESOME!! You must try the fried MUSHROOMS, those are my family's favorite. Bobbie the owner of the restaurant and her staff are good to the customers. If you enjoy a home cook meal, this is the place to go!! Their new location is in Orange Park, Fl., off Blanding Blvd. They closed the Heckscher Drive location.

I agree with Alan, don't waste your time or money. Crab cakes were nasty. My pull pork was old and hard. Water tasted like sewer and salad was old and wilted.

This place is fantastic! (I'm not sure what the person above is talking about, I wouldn't be surprised if they work for the Sand Dollar and are concerned about this new comer.)

The shrimp are straight off the boat and the size of small lobsters, the food is not over battered as some fried seafood is, and the vegetables are crisp and colorful. (The asparagus was extremely green, and the corn was crisp and definitely not canned.)

Bobby, the owner, does the cooking herself and is very personable. The restaurant's small size is perfect as you can make special requests and the staff gets to know you. In fact, their tag line is "Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you" and that is a perfect description of this small jewel!

The only reason I can think of for people to write a decent review on this place is because they have no tastebuds. I've eaten in some dives before, but this place takes the cake. Actually, if they served cake I wouldn't eat it. I saw a salad that was more grey and brown, then green, yet it was called a mixed GREEN salad. Usually, a mixed green, would have several kinds of lettuce, or other greens, this one had iceberg (Ugh), GIANT carrots (Unwashed), HEADS of broccoli, and a few other things I won't mention. I was tempted to ask for a Beano Dressing. The rest of the menu is a tip of the hat to the local trash that live in the trailers just past the restaurant. Burgers, fried crap, and things covered in barbeque sauce, if you can't cover it in ranch dressing. It's something to feed the kids and unwanted relatives if there's nothing to do before catching the ferry or making the drive to Fernandina. Don't waste your time or money. As for breakfast, who CAN'T do breakfast? That's how Waffle House has survived til now! If you can't cook eggs, don't open a business. But, please, DON'T call yourself a restaurant because you can grill some bacon.

update , called spoke to Bobbie the owner to explain my dis-satisfaction.(as mentioned above) Explained my family lived on the island and would like to have a nice experience at her establishment. Bobbie then said "which house do you live in" I answered, Bobbie said "OK" and as a matter of fact, HUNG UP ON ME. Go to the Sand Dollar if you want a decent meal on this island.

There food is awesome! I recommend the Giant Cheeseburger or the Blacken Grouper sandwich are always a pleaser. They also have the best potato salad in town if you like dill!

Great food at good prices and yes, you will need a take out box, as the portions are very hardy.
