Food was ok, but not worth the price. Wait staff can be extremely moody. I've had much better dining experiences at the Brass Rail & Court Street Restaurant, both which I highly recommend.

My experience today at Lua for brunch, in a nutshell: I ordered pancakes, which were literally burnt pieces of cardboard. They put the burnt sides face down in hopes that I wouldn't notice.

My husband ordered the steak and eggs, and what came out was the saddest, most pathetic piece of meat I have ever seen. It was about 4 inches long and 1/2 inch thick, burnt and wrinkled up like a ruined piece of bacon.

Oh, and the "unlimited" mimosas? Well, they're only unlimited as long as the waitress deems there is "enough" food left on your plate. If not, well then, sorry. You'll have to pay extra for that one.

I just had dinner on Saturday, July 28 with some friends. The restaurant has a fantastic location with a view of Manhattan and the Hudson River, unfortunately that's the only good thing I could say about LUA. Service staff needs training for significant improvement: I was told that the only available sit down was before 6:30 pm, when I showed up, the hostess would not seat us until all members of our party was there (even though I am clearly a pregnant woman and there were only 1 or 2 tables that were occupied), and she also told us that if our friends didn't show up in 15 minutes then she'll have to give up our table. So 10 minutes later we got seated, and by 7:30 half of the restaurant was still empty, it certainly makes me wonder about the availability of the reservations.

I live in the building where Lua is located. Although the food is good, you must apparently worry about the individuals preparing and providing you the food. 2 of the staff were in the building garage urinating, ad last I checked, there is not a fountain to wash your hands.

This is a great place to eat, drink and be with friends. The food portion is huge and delicious … BUT, we recently got food poisoning here. We went to Lua on Sat., March 11, 2006 for our friends birthday party. We had reservations for about 32 people (according to our friend they can easily accommadate large parties) and about 3/4 of us got sick from food poisoning. We didn't realize the cause was Lua until we started emailing each other about how sick (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, body ache, burping, exhaustion) we all were and how much time most of us were spending in the bathroom or trying to nurse a fever. Recommend this place, but probably won't eat there for a while ... or at least until I start feeling better.
