We previously had their Hawaiian BBQ Chicken & Kalua pork..... and to be honest, it's ok but it is nothing like advertised- although I'm confident it's all freshly made, the recipes produce food that is reminiscent of pre-packaged, "boil in a bag" Boston Market style. Our 2nd visit occurred on Nov 25 in the evening, the place is spotless and the staff warm & welcoming, service could not have been better. We ordered 2 items which have very high reviews....the patty melt & pork quesadilla..... both of which looked delicious! Although obviously fresh, it was disappointing. Both items terribly lacked seasoning with the meats looking and tasting as if it was "boiled or steam" cooked... as bland as you can get. The patty-melt bread was almost to the point of being "soggy" in texture, the ground-meat patty undercooked (by industry & health department) standards. Mozzarella cheese on the quesadilla should never be used as a only cheese on such food as it literally "pulls" the flavor out of the meat making it seem to have not been seasoned. We had a side of French fries and mac salad....... each had a soggy type texture (double blanching of the fires would have precluded this) and again lacked flavor.
In summary, I wish Kelbo's & Stern's was still around so both clients and restaurant owners/chef's would have a true comparison of what an Hawaiian and BBQ experience should be.
