Geeeeeeez. Who runs such places. The customer is what its all about. Unbelievable. I would fire the lost of them and particular the owners/managers. Malachy Melody

Unfriendly staff. They are the most unhappy people I have met. Food is average.

Laurel is a great place to stop in for a beer or to grab a burger. I was told they get their meat from Jenifer Street Market and their buns are also from a local bakery. I can appreciate that! The bartender seemed friendly, and only hovered to talk if you seemed interested- which I appreciate. Food came out super fast, but I also came at an "off time" and there weren't many other people eating. Will definitely be back

A great place to go with your friends. When I was visiting from out of town my buddies brought me here and it was great. Can't wait to go back.

This is a cool bar with really good food for a bar. The atmosphere is pretty chill as well. This is a place I will go back to when I need to get out a little!

The Laurel Tavern is a very clean neighborhood bar with great food. It's a gathering spot for holidays like St. Patty's and sporting events. They used non-trans-fat oil for their fries long before everyone else did.

Each time I have gone it has been good. I have only had drinks and appetizers, but from my experience I can say this is a quality place.

My friends and I come here quite often (maybe too much) and everything is great! They pour a really good drink, and also have a good selection of beer.

My home away from home! They have great food and a great beer selection on tap. The food makes me a little gassy, but it's worth it!

This is the best bar before a Badger game. There are a ton of fans there and it is within walking distance. It's the best place to stop for a few shots before you head out into the cold for the game!

My favorite bar in town! It's like the Madison version of Cheers, but you don't have to be a local to enjoy the great menu. Stop in some time for drinks and dinner!

I agree with the comments on the inhospitably of the wait staff. Off duty staff usually take up one end of the bar and the on-duty staff just hang out chatting and ignore customers. You have to go to the bar and get someone's attention. One the waitresses, Mel, can be downright surly.

I live around the corner and was a regular, simply for the convenience. The food is ok for bar food--nothing special. By far the best burgers are at the Blue Moon and, especially, Dotty Dumpling's Dowery. The food wasn't special enough to keep me going back and put up with the inattentive staff. i don't go there any more.

Luv the Laurel. Best of all worlds, great fish fry, great burgers and sandwiches, not to mention the Prime Rib!!!! Best in town. Mel, Who usually takes care of us should be named "Best Waitress in Madison"!!!!

Melissa is the nicest, coolest waitress around! I love the Laurel. The wall mural makes you feel right at home. And, the bathrooms are nice too. I watched Obama's acceptance speech here. What a memorable night!

Don't go to the Laurel unless you are looking for good food, drink, good prices and friendly armosphere. If those 4 items are "it" for you then, by all mans, head to Monroe Street.

As soon as we walked into the Laurel Tavern, we received strange, angry looks from the entire staff. We felt very uncomfortable finding a table.
The waitresses were the worst I have ever experienced. They were incredibly rude, plopping drinks/food food on the table and quickly leaving without a word. When we asked for a to go container (we had to go to the bar, because we were ignored) we were directed back to our waitress who quickly responded 'They're right there' and left, having us get them outselves from the waitresses station.
When asked if we were to pay at the bar, we were subject to a annoyed look and told "Yeah. Right."
In the end, the service caused us to leave early. The Laurel Tavern has lost two customers.

The lack of separate checks for a small group 8 or less means that we will not frequent the Laurel Tavern. Separate checks are a must, especially on a fixed income.
