BERNIES GOING DOWNHILL FAST!

Bernies used to be a great place to go, decent prices, large portions, good food, but that is changing. My last two trips there I have to say were pretty terrible. The service was strange, really, couldn't figure out what was going on. First We had reservations for 6, and one person was a little late and they refused to seat us so we were left standing there, 5 of us, blocking up the entrance to the place while we waited for our last party to arrive. What would it have hurt to seat us? We had reservations, there were 5 of us there, even if the last person never arrived we would have had dinner.... Read more » Were they going to kick us out and give our table away if all 6 people didn't show? It made absolutely no sense to me!!! I have never been to a restraurant that behaved this way. Next when we finally were seated, we waited for a long time for a waitress even though the place had hardly any people. When we finally got a waitress, we were never given rolls or water before the meal. Two speciality drinks, ordered from the board as you walk in, were $9.00 bucks each and very tiny glasses, and didn't taste good. When we finally ordered, there was another very long wait before we got any food, again, they were not busy! When the food started dribbling out, things got even worse! The food came to the table hodge-podge, one person got their baked potatoe, no dinner, just the potatoe,(*?) no butter, no sour cream; At the same time someone else got their mashed potatoe, no dinner, just the side of mash and gravy; both potatoes sat there and got cold while we waited for the food. Potatoes and no dinners? We sat there and watched the potatoes get cold waiting for the dinners, which came one here, one there, not all at once like they are supposed to. Two people got their beef orders, but the other 4 still waited for their dinners. finally the rest of the food came, in bits and pieces, no rythm or reason to it; one childs fried shrimp, then a baked fish, someone elses coleslaw. The Beef, which is supposed to be Bernies "thing", is a huge chunk for the price, but its not marinated or seasoned at all, it really has no flavor. The size is big but how much plain unseasoned, flavorless beef can you eat? After 10 bites its just more unflavorful, bland, rubbery beef, a brick in your stomach. .Its certainly not a wonderful, melt in your mouth prime rib, thats for sure! The baked fish was not cooked, literally mushy cold fish, the scallops were not cooked either; doesn't everyone know how dangerous it is to eat uncooked seafood? The baked potatoe that came early was not done, it was hard as a rock. The coleslaw was flavorless and so filled with mayo it was gross. The Baked, crab stuffed shrimp was overcooked, very dry, and what was supposed to be crabmeat stuffing had no crabmeat and was just a ton of bread crumbs, dry, unseasoned crumbs at that. Over all, I give this place a TERRIBLE rating, service TERRIBLE, food TERRIBLE policy TERRIBLE and atmosphere (which I never minded because of everything else) but now I give it TERRIBLE. AVOID BERNIES TILL THEY GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER... I think that people who don't care about the taste of food or the service, or the atmosphere, and are only interested in stuffing down as much food as possible will keep going here, because there is a lot, but when I go out to dinner, I like to have good tasting food, good service and a nice place to eat it. The dining car thing is different, but its not really comfortable, your squished in, and the rugs and decor are getting old and smelly. I used to look the other way about the table issues, because everything else was in place, and so you would put up with it, but now there really isn't much going for this place. It really does pain me to say that because it used to be a favorite place of mine, and I do hope they get their act together. « Read less
