review_stars 09/30/2006 - Tibetan cuisine.
Tibet, often called the roof of the world, has gone through many changes over the last fifty years, and so has Tibetan cuisine. Traditional Tibetan cuisin includes various kinds of noodle soup dishes, momos (dumplings), tingmo(steamed buns), phaley (wheat breads) and tsampa (barley flour). Usually ourfoods are light and not fried, but very filling and healthy; otherwise, we could not have survived in the land of Everest.Traditionally, our meats are air-dried or boiled with potatoes or daikons(white radishes) and lightly salted. Vegetable dishes are mostly steamed and cooked in very light spices. Tibetans do not traditionally like sweets, so our desserts featureplenty of dried and fresh fruits. We drink a lot of traditional black tea, butter and salt tea and tea with milk. Since Tibetans have been in exile for so long (in our case, exiled in India and Nepal)we developed many new creations of modernTibetan food prepared in our own Tibetan way. Finally, yes, we do use chopsticks. Here at Rangzen, you will find both traditional and non-traditional vegetarianand meat dishes. At the same time, you will see a glimpse of Tibet and rememberthe spirit of Tibet. (You are most welcome to browse through our Tibetan bookcollection.) Ours is a simple Tibetan family restaurant, where you can experience our 2,500-year old rich tradition as well as enjoy the taste of genuine Tibetan cuisine.
