This is truly an adventure. You drive down this driveway towards a ranch, turn and then the sign for Emil-Lene's. The building does not look like much, but when you drive around the two covered wagons and park, then walk into the vestibule, John Wayne himself greets you. Be sure to check out the tree in the middle of the one dining room. After you are seated, you are treated to an iced compote bowl filled with fresh veggies: celery, carrots, green onions, hot peppers, black olives which are fresh and very tasty. You get your drinks, and in a little while, the server comes and asks if you are ready to order. Surprise, no printed menus. The server rattles off the offerings for the day, and as you try to choose she is quite helpful. Then WOW: the steaks come and they are great. If you like fresh French fries, these are the best. They cut the French fries after they are ordered and cook them just for you. You are in for a real treat here. We have dined here twice and both times everything was great. Try the homemade ice cream with the homemade hot fudge. Tasty. If you order a mixed drink, be ready for a generous pour.
Just do not turn around and leave when you see the building. It is nice inside and worth every penny.
