To whoever is reading this, The son of the former owner keeps posting nasty comments.. He is a pathetic excuse forva man, i know this from experience... The only thing that is true on this page is that the food was good... This is because they stole all the recipes from another restraunt the ownwer Sue worked at before.. The waitress jodie is very rude, and hatefull..
Dont take offense she is like that in every day life... Nobody in petersburg likes them.. Im not shocked they went out if business.. Joe the son is a raging drunk who can not take care of himself, and takes all theit money
Before you call my family white trash joe take a long hard look at yourself

To the person who gets on here every couple of months using different names and describes Sue and Jody as being rude people, I just want to say you sure thought they where nice when the food was free! You could not stuff enough food into your fat white trash face! Lmao!

I used to come into this place to eat with my husband and brother a few years ago. The waitress was short with us and acted rudely. We decided to come back this new year and the new girls that work there are excellent. I will be coming back in for the 2nd time this month. Food was hot and ready fast!

Wow- it has such potential...but the service was terrible. Will NEVER go again. Morning Star in Salisbury is the place to stop and eat- better food AND good service.

Sorry, waitress daughter and mother are rude. And they sure don't take constructive criticism very well. Lots of town folk refuse to go back..

I will never go back to this place. The waitress jody has no clue what she is doin, and the mother i

I work within the community and a few co-workers and I decided to have lunch there. The food was wonderful! But it took entirely to long to be able to go back for our one hour lunch break. The waitress was one of the worst I've had in my life and she made us feel like we were bothering her when asking her if she could bring us things we asked for. We only got one drink each but were almost afraid to ask for anything more. If we could get another waitress, our group would probably have lunch there two or three times per month!

Great food. Friendly staff. I am a repeat customer and enjoy the Plaid Rooster. I live 30 miles away in Springfield and enjoy so much the pleasant trek out to Petersburg. Love the Olive Nut spread!

The Plaid Rooster restaurant was a really pleasant surprise on a recent visit to Lincoln's New Salem. The salads are excellent at very reasonable prices. The dining area is nicely-decorated with soft dulcimer music playing in the background. Service was excellent. Petersburg is only 2 miles north of Lincoln's New Salem and the Plaid Rooster is well worth stopping for lunch and a pleasant experience.

Food is great! I came down to vist the state park and happened to stop in at this great little cafe. The food and service are really good not sure what other people on this site are talking about, but I am from Chicago must be a small town gossip thing.

Such anger! Bashing someone in such a cruel manner is just plan mean. Trying to damage a really good place to eat is out line. Yes this I do take this to heart the owners are great people and if you really feel this way talk to them, not putting your insulting coments online.

I've been enjoying lunch in Petersburg at the Oaks on 7th for some time now (I do business in town) but decided to try the Plaid Rooster for a change. The food was not bad, and the pies did look delicious, as others have said. At the risk of drawing the ire of some posters, I do have to agree about the shortness of the waitress. To me, that is part of what makes the visit; the warm, welcoming atmosphere. I'm not sure I'd dump the waitress, but maybe some coaching would be in order. It was a bit busy when I was there, and it seemed she could use some help. I will likely stick with the Oaks based on what I saw.

"Grow up"? That's an odd thing to say. I'm a 68 year old woman and about as grown up as I will ever get. Last time I checked, I have every right to review this, or any establishment, as I wish. It was an opinion. If the place is a wonderful as you say it is, it will speak for itself and my words will no have bearing on it's business. However, bashing someone who has the right to speak how she feels, is ridiculous and unnecessary. Quite frankly, your response sounds a little personal, if you ask me...

Nice atmosphere, great food (especially the Carnival Salad) and friendly people. Never have to wait more than 5 minutes for my order, even when super busy! Dessert is fabulous! A nice family owned restuarant.

Great place to eat! As far as the waitress being rude mary you top the list as far as that goes! Grow up!

The food is not bad but the waitress is awful. She couldn't get away from our table fast enough. The food just isn't worth the horrible service.

Food is wonderful, could not agree more about the rude waitress though... beyond rude.

Homemade pie is terrific Soup is wonderful, dump the waitress

Food is fabulous. The home made breads and pies are mouth watering. The setting is cute and comfortable. The mother and daughter are a great team. The daughter may not have a lot of time to "chat" as one commented because she focuses on getting the orders and delivering your food in a timely manner. Great place to eat. Our second time there they remembered who we were and welcomed us back warmly. Love this place!

review_stars 02/09/2009 - Pretty good!
If you are not in a hurry then come here. Food is pretty good. Excellent soups. I really like the chicken salad too. Only one waitress and she can be very short with people. Her mother owns the place and is just as nice as can be. A very nice place for a leisurely lunch.
