Top Reviews of Sue's Thai Kitchen

review_stars 02/17/2017 - Sarah B.
Though Sue's menu is small and the non-soup portion of it isn't anything special, Sue's Thai Kitchen offers several Thai soups that are delightfully flavorful and fragrant. I know soup isn't most Americans' idea of a full meal, but the soups here are served in large portions that will definitely fill you up, and more importantly, I can't overstate the effect a bowl of Sue's soup has on my palate. It's like having a foodie religious experience! Though I find all Sue's soups delicious, I'm especially partial to the Tom Yum soup. Lemongrass, sliced ginger, and Kaffir lime leaves boiled in the broth give a complex flavor experience that's honestly difficult to describe, except by the word, "Wowie!" Some of the flavoring elements are fibrous and basically inedible, so I recommend you remove them from the soup instead of trying to eat them. ;) Still, their inclusion is the strongest indication that this soup is made traditionally, with natural ingredients rather than artificial flavoring. Sue and her staff also make a Tom Kha soup that's TO DIE FOR. It's a lot like the Tom Yum with the addition of coconut milk, which I find almost too rich for me. Finishing a bowl of it is a bit of a challenge.

Along with the AMAZING soups, Sue herself is often there, and her presence makes the experience even better. She's a friendly person who's given to wandering about the restaurant during the slow hours, chatting cheerfully with the customers. It really makes you feel welcome.

All things considered, this is my favorite restaurant in Salem: friendly owner, startlingly-flavorful fare, and a relaxed atmosphere make it a lovely place to have a exceptional meal.

This is one of the best places to eat anywhere around. Fresh ingredients along with Sue's home grown spices, makes her food unique, delightful, & just an original experience in Thie food. Weather you like it hot & spicy or no heat at all you will be very surprised at her tasty dishes.
