My family has eaten at Kurtz's Restaurant several times over the past 20 years or so, but today was our last visit!!! They have jacked up they're prices to the point that it is no longer worth it for us to take our family there. They are not kid friendly either. Just to mention a couple of disappointments...our son was asked if he's like jello, applesauce or another side with his fish dinner. He said jello, then we were charged extra for it. At the end of the meal, we were asked about dessert. My daughter got ice cream with chocolate syrup. We were brought a small dish with about 4 tablespoons worth of ice cream and a little chocolate syrup drizzled on top...the bill for that was $4! YES...$4!! They claimed it was 2 scoops. Also, my wife and I split the prime-rib and ordered mashed potatoes instead of the roasted red potatoes that came with it. The kitchen messed up (according to our waitress) and sent the roasted potatoes, so our waitress brought the mashed potatoes we had ordered...then they charged us extra for the mashed potatoes. When my wife questioned the charge (because they admitted the mistake), she was told 'if the roasted potatoes were on the plate, she had to charge us extra for the mashed potatoes.'

WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! :-(

I travel'd to Bardstown to meet friends and spend the day checking out the historical points of the city. Upon a recommendation from someone in passing we went to this restaurant for dinner (before the Stephen Foster Show). IT was pouring raini so we parked the car and ran inside....we were immediately seated. The seating rooms were clean but very old with uneven floors. After about five minutes the servor and the hostess came back to our table and asked us our name. WE told them and said what is goin on ??? They made a huge deal about us not having reservations even though we counted 5 empty tables which stayed empty during the entire time we sat there. They continued to treat us as if we had done something wrong......not bringing refills in a timely fashion etc. The servor even had to bring it up one last time before we left. The food was amazing........but I will never go there again and be treated in that fashion. IT was extremely embarassing........we had no idea reservations were required. It was not posted anywhere and they seated us as soon as we walked in........why didn't they ask us then???/ Completely embarassing.

We stumbled on this restaurant and were delighted with our meal. Our exuberant waitress assured us anything we ordered would be delicious. The pickled beets, barbecued chicken, and vegetables were very good. The biscuit pudding with carmel bourbon sauce was achingly delicious! The owner worked us in so we could make a show. That evening they had to turn at least 24 people away while we waited.

I live in Bardstown and this is my favorite! We have other sit-down restaurants but nothing can beat Kurtz cream of broccoli soup, fried chicken or their desserts.
