We had really enjoyed this restaurant a couple of years ago when we went for my birthday. This year we decided to go for my birthday again with another couple, but the restaurant is no longer worth the time or money.

The chef is still here, but his partner seemed to be in absentia. The wine list is almost non-existent - few if any French wines (surprising for a French restaurant) and only a couple of California in any given category. This was in complete contrast to our experience a couple of years ago.

Also, on our prior visit, the restaurant was quite busy. This last Friday night, few tables were occupied. In spite of this, we arrived 6 minutes before our reservation time and were told to wait to be seated, since the chef 'has his rules'.

The $18.00 watermelon salad consisted of a few small watermelon balls and a few sprigs of mint and herbs. It was very small, and was rather bland. The onion soup was insipid - I have tasted better canned. Onions not carmelized, watery chicken stock (canned?)
The salmon and wasabi appetizer was decent, however.

We ordered a filet mignon which was also pretty good. Not spectacular, but decent. The fried potatoes were horrible - grease-saturated, limp, flavorless.

The three lamb dishes were also uninspired. The lamb was tender, but tasted like it might have been boiled or braised in water. The 'sauce' it came with had no flavor to speak of. Each piece of lamb was maybe two and a half inches in diameter. Mine was about 70% fat. No joke. A 2 1/2 inch piece of lamb shoulder fat. We sent mine back, obviously. The chef told the waitress to tell us he would not accept it back since he thought it was a perfectly edible piece of lamb shoulder which should be expected to be mostly fat (???!!!) We were to pay for it, whether we refused to eat it or not.

This sorry excuse for a meal was over $300.00. Yes, the ambience was fine and the waitresses were polite and helpful.

It is a mystery as to what happened between the first visit and now. The missing co-owner may have something to do with it, but who knows? My guess is they are planning to close this restaurant within the year. In any case, we are NEVER going back.

This was absolutely the worst dining experience of my 50 years of life. It was primarily due to the Owner/Server Gilles. He controlled our entire experience and through his actions, our entire night was terrible. We had a glass of wine in the bar area. We asked the bartender to take our picture - when all of a sudden Gilles burst through the door - and told the bartender to stop taking our picture and for us to immediately be seated. There were only two tables filled. What was the rush?

It took 15 minutes to get our menus as we were ignored. Once we ordered it took 30 minutes for our salads. Again, we were ignored. We both had the lamb entree. It was undercooked and the veggies were soggy. There was no salt or pepper on the table. I asked for pepper from Gilles. He (actually) huffed, brought a pepper shaker, gave me two quick twists, stated "there is enough pepper on the lamb, why would you need anymore?" and stormed off stomping his feet. We were shocked.

Not another person visited us, cleared our plates, or asked if we needed anything for 45 minutes. Finally, they showed up and we were done with the restaurant. I asked for the check. The bill for two was for $150. I left no tip (first time in my life). I did tip the bartender on the way out. She could tell we were not happy.

But wait...it only gets better. As we are approaching our car in the parking lot, Mr. Arrogant Owner Gilles comes out and says "I understand you are upset and had bad service. What did the girl (waitress) do?" I replied it wasn't her at all - but you Gilles.

He immediately yelled at us "You are not welcome in my restaurant. Don't ever come back." We were dumbfounded. We left never to return.

After reading the other reviews on other sites about this man (the next morning) we were not surprised. Save your money. There are other great restaurants in the area that offer better prices and certainly better service.

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner, and I have decided to celebrate every occasion here. The food was beyond fabulous. The ambiance was romantic, relaxing, and comfortable. The staff was wonderful, and the service amazing. You will not be disappointed.
