A friend & I had dinner at Captain's Bay in Waynesville 03/08/2016. The service is VERY POOR and my fish tasted as if they had been rolled in salt. Really gross. I love Cod and these were just inedible so I was very disappointed. The hush puppies lacked seasoning & onion, were soggy, undercooked and were dripping grease. The salad was stale and limp. The waitress never returned to see if drink refills were needed. Took her a very long time to amble her considerable weight back to bring the bill and ask if all was okay. I told her the fish were way too salty & couldn't be eaten. Also told the cashier. Neither bothered to even offer to remove that from the bill. I paid $18 for it even though all I was able to eat was the baked potato and the 1/2 cup steamed vegetables. We won't go there again and at this point I am telling anyone who mentions food in any way about my experience at Captain's Bay so that they may avoid it as I wish I had done.

My Family and I live in Waynesville and we eat at Captain's Bay from time to time. Having eaten at the restaurant instead of ordering to go as we usually do, we can say without a doubt they have the worst service of any restaurant in Waynesville. We ask our server to take back a steak because it was way under cooked and she replied to us that's how she wrote it on the ticket and walked away. When we have ordered to go the food is very very inconsistent at best, one time it will be great the next it is a box of grease. We have not been back now for several months and friends of ours say it is exactly the same as is has been. We would never recommend this establishment to anyone who comes to visit our wonderful town

Several ladies and myself that are friends and worked together take a weekend trip every spring and for the last few springs we have gone to Carolina Bay in Waynesville because the seafood was terrific. We couldn't wait to get there this week to eat again. There was a steak and shrimp special for two people so my friend and I decided to try it. Our mistake was not telling the waitress that we wanted the steak well done. We ordered FRIED shrimp. When the meal came out the steak was bloody so we asked that it be cooked more as we both prefer well done. The waitress took it and when it was returned it was still bloody. Also the shrimp was grilled instead of fried. When we told the waitress she said " well I wrote down fried" And that was the end of that. Neither of us could eat the steak and the shrimp was awful. When we checked out we told of our ordeal and the girl waiting on us said well she liked her steak like that and the reason the shrimp was grilled was because the waitress wrote that on the order. She did knock off a couple dollars but we will NOT rush to go there again!!!!!!!!

My husband and I went to eat lunch at this restaurant after church. The hostess sat my husband and I at a small table, both on the same side. My husband and I are large size people, I felt seating us in such an uncomfortable fashion was insensitive, not to mention that I like to look at my dining partner in the face, not the ear. It took about 20 minutes for a waitress to make her way over to us, but that was okay, the place was crowded. We asked about the special on the lunch menu but was told since it was Sunday we would have to order from the dinner menu. Since the special I wanted for lunch was much more expensive on the dinner menu I ordered another less expensive special, however, the waitress wrote down what I originally wanted from the lunch menu for my husband and I, which, of course, we weren't aware of until she brought our food and I got to looking at it. The waitress never returned to refresh our drinks or to see if we needed anything. The other little waitress saw that our iced tea was low but ignored us when we tried to get her attention, as did our own waitress. No team work here! We were unable to finish eating, there was nothing to wash it down with. Then we waited and waited for the bill to be brought. When the waitress finally came with the bill, she asked if she could refill our tea, but by this time we were ready to go. The waitress apologized for not bringing us anything else to drink (but she got everyone around us) and then started complaining about how crowded it was and how much she had to do. NOT professional! The staff at this restaurant need more training and there needs to be maybe another two or three more wait staff. At least the food was good. The service was JUST PLAIN AWFUL!!!
