Restaurant Description

*This restaurant has closed. If this restaurant is open or has reopened, just let us know.

The reinvention of The Blue Grotto is upon us. Gone are the Tuxedos and ornate fixtures, yielding to a more comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy classics such as Parmigiana, Marsala, and Saltimboca preparations. Traditional selections such as Osso Buco and Braised Rabbit are as popular here today as they were in the Old Country. There are contemporary twists as well, such as Lobster and Shrimp Scampi, a 'Lasagna' of Vegetables, and Filet Mignon with Caramelized Gorgonzola. The wine list has over 300 selections, and it grows with each week. There are 35 offerings by the glass, and 70 half bottles as well. The Blue Grotto, the best new restaurant you've already been to. | Dinner served nightly, Lunch Until 4pm, Sunday Brunch from 10 -3pm

If you enjoy the Olive Garden you may like this place. There are a dozen better restaurants on the hill.

My wife and I went to the Grotto for the first time. The food was great especially the fried squid which was served with peppers. Our main dishes were also wonderful. Loved the athmosphere, especially sitting by the fireplace. The service by our waitress Kimberly was terrific. She was friendly and took good care of us.
Thumbs up Up and Up

Although I gave this restaurant 3 stars , the food was very good but the atmosphere is terrible ! Starting with the Host at the door who then became the bartender. No personality
at all. Oh well, figured he was having a bad day, he was busy being Host, Bartender and answering the phones. BUT ....then came our Waiter. His personality was as bad as the first guy.We were there celebrating a special occasion which really put a damper on things. This is not a cheap restaurant. You get better service at
McDonald's. .To add to that, on the way out we were all still being friendly and we got a " Thanks" from the host. Not a Thank-you for coming, have a nice day . We are not from Rhode Island but visit Federal Hill often. WE WILL NOT
be going back to the Blue Grotto !!

We had intended to go to Andino's but when we arrived the restaurant was closed. This was a surprised since it was 6:00 on Saturday nite. We noticed The Blue Grotto and looked the menu over. There was something for everyone so decided to try it. We had to laugh when we went in and asked for a table for 4. They asked if we had reservations, we said no and noticed there was only one table with diners sitting. After looking over the sceematic of the dining rooms they sat us in a room with probable 6 or 8 tables and 2 gas fireplaces. The ambiance was very nice. The food was excellent, service at first was a little slow but he got better as the time went on. We were very happy that Andino's was closed, The Blue Grotto was so much better as was the service and atmosphere. We highly recommend this restaurant and are already trying to figure when we can go back.

i enjoyed the food and the service was good but when the bill came we were a party of 5 and the gratuity had been added to the check and we were not aware of that and tipped him 25% on top of that! The waiter never told us the bill had the tip included and took our tip also and never said thank you! When we realized the next day that the bill had to be wrong because we had a gift certificate for $100 and the bill came to $214 we called the manager and we were told Thai the tip had been included and the waiter said he told us that!! He certainly did not because we would not have left him an $80 tip on a $214 dinner!! Make sure you watch your bills and do not trust the waiter with the almost balding Blondie hair in his 40's. He never came back to the table to say thank you for the generous tip we left him on top of the one he had added to the bill!!! There were 5 of us celebrating our mothers 77th birthday and we will all sped the word about that waiter!! People are so dishonest! Blue Grotto did not even offer us a gift certificate for the mistake but told us he had been there a long time and was "honest" I don;t know what their idea of honest is but he most certainly did not tell us tip was included in bill!!!!!

Great food and service! The crab cake and calamari were the best we've ver had, and the sweet potato gnocchi and veal tederloin were awsome as well! Excellent wine selection! We'll be back.

The food is absolutely incredible. I have been before maybe three years ago, and the food was ok. But now i went recently and its by far the best on the hill. Who ever your chef is don't let them go for anything. Thank-you for an awesome evening.

What a pleasant surprise we found last night on Federal Hill. We hadn't been to the Blue Grotto in years and on a whim decided to try it again and we were blown away. Not your typical Italian cuisine at all, full of little contemporary twists and surprises you may expect from a New York eatery but not here. The chef is extraordinary!!!

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. From the valet to the dessert tray, it can not be beat. The servers are friendly and professional, the specials are inventive and the desserts, the DESSERTS, lets just say, save room!
A culinary jewel.

Great food and service. On recent trip someone at the restaurant changed the amount on my debit card payment. I called the restaurant and was treated very well. The person that I spoke to was to get back to me but a month has gone by and I am still waiting!!

Two thumbs up for this Federal Hill classic. Excellent traditional italian food with a contemporary twist. Great service and an awsome wine selection.
