Went to Buffalo Tap in Savage to TRY to get lunch today after church.
The greedy owners have decided to charge everyone $20.00 cover charge simply to enter the restaurant due to the fact that there is a Packers game on television. The 20 per head is simply cover - you get nothing for it. For the 9 of us it would have been $180.00 to get the honor of then ordering and paying for food on top of that.
Since we always order appetizers, meals, beverages and desserts when we go out, this seems an unwise move financially for the owners and managers to make seeing as #1 we went and spent our money with a competitor of theirs in the south of the river restaurant area that DIDN'T incorrectly feel that their atmosphere was worth 20.00 per head and #2 we will be sharing our experience with social media and others and #3 they alienated 9 Savage locals that were customers of theirs simultaneously.
In recent times, the food and beverage prices have been continuously rising (I paid $8.00 for a craft beer there one evening), the food quality has been steadily declining and the service has gotten slower and slower.
It is disappointing to see the obviously poor and short sighted decision making that led them to believe that charging 20.00 admission per person to a restaurant was a good idea.
We like supporting local and family owned businesses - sadly it seems that this is one that we will be no longer be supporting and sharing our experience with others so that they may do likewise.
They responded to my review with excuses and attempted to say I was justifying the increase in prices, lol: Buffalo Tap When the restaurant fills up with fans who cannot watch their game at home & choose to come here to watch it, we have a $20 minimum to ensure that the people who are going to spend money at a restaurant can have a seat as opposed to people who come in and drink a water for 3 hours. It has been this way for 10 years. It only happens about 3 game days during the year. The football fans fill us up completely with standing room only before we open. There is no cover, & like you said with the prices going up recently because of the minimum wage increase, it is fairly easy to accomplish spending $20. As always, if there ever is an issue with food quality or service let us know and we would be happy to fix any problems that arise.
My response to them: Jeremy Deysach That is not at all what we and another group were told. Additionally another acquaintance of mine experienced the exact same thing - being told that it would be 20.00 per person cover charge.
The person at the host area who told us that did not say anything about a 20 minimum spend. They said 20 cover.
So either it was a 20 cover or the staff weren't correctly trained in what was going on. Either one indicates a failure in either plan or service.
Additionally, you are a restaurant. You have the right to ask someone drinking water to leave during a game or any other time. The minimum spend requirement is greed and poor policy if that is what it was as you claim - although when everyone was told it was a cover charge, it is difficult to believe a completely differing explanation after the fact.
Additionally, as a small employer, your increases from a percentage standpoint aren't proportional with the minimum wage increases.
Your response sounds more like excuses than understanding - that sort of approach costs you customers and reinforces my initial point in my review.
