My boyfriend and I went to Shuckers on Saturday (7/25/20) we ordered the oysters for our appetizer, within 10 minutes of eating my boyfriend felt extreme nausea, stomach pains, was extremely pale, and he was burning up. He ran to the bathroom and got sick for 20 minutes; while he was in the bathroom I told our waitress that he was not going to eat his meal because he was sick and she responded "let's see how he feels when he returns." When he finally came back to the table he said he was going to get sick again and ran out of the restaurant. At that time I went inside to tell the waitress I needed to leave so I could tend to my boyfriend I was very concerned about his health and well being. At that time all the waitress said to me was did he drink too much? I replied that he did not drink at all. The waitress did say she would take the oysters off of the bill however she made us pay for the rest of the meal that was basically untouched, and that I prior told her would be uneaten as to him becoming ill from the oysters. I would have liked to have spoken with the manager however as I mentioned I needed to hurry out of there to tend to my boyfriend. I felt at that point I did not want to argue or run out without paying so I paid the bill.

We both have had oysters prior to this experience with no issues.

If it wasn't for COVID I would have taken my boyfriend to the ER right away. My boyfriend was sick all night and through the following day with food poisoning.

I tried emailing the restaurant around 1 am and received a bounce-back twice (I used the email button on their Instagram). I also tried messaging them on Instagram and no one opened my message. I called the restaurant on Monday afternoon and spoke with a manager named Mike. I explained the situation to him, he was very understanding (at least it seemed that way). He offered me a gift card for the full amount of the bill. I told him we would not be returning to the beach this summer, I then told him I would prefer it if he could please just credit my boyfriend's credit card, he said that would be fine. I told him I needed to contact my boyfriend to get the card information and he told me to call back and ask for him. I had the information within five minutes of our conversation. I called back and ask for him, the guy that answered the phone said this is Michael, I said the manager? He sounded different to me, but he said is this regarding your boyfriend's food poisoning. I said yes did I just speak with you? He said yes however he sounded different and his domineer was not the same. I then said I am calling back with the credit card information, and he says oh I am sorry we can not credit you. I then said I definitely did not just speak with you and then replied (oh that was Mike the weekend manager I am Michael the weekday manager) I ASKED HIM AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CONVERSATION IF HE WAS THE SAME PERSON I SPOKE WITH FIVE MINUTES EARLIER! He gave me the runaround and said issuing credit is not their policy and Mike the other manager should not have said he would. He basically said eating raw seafood is at your own risk! He would not put the previous manager on the phone so at that point, I asked to speak to the owner. He said he would take down my name and number and have them call me back.
I asked what time they come in and what their name was. He told me the owners were Jonny and JoAnn and they come in at 5:00. I waited until 7:30 and called again, I spoke to Dominique she put me on hold and told me they were busy and could not speak to me. I then said could you please tell them this was regarding food poisoning but again they could not speak to me. I gave her my name and number again and asked if someone could please call me back as soon as possible. It is now Tuesday at 5:00 PM and I still have not heard back from anyone!

I live in Manhattan and this service is unacceptable and subpar. I would like to warn you of how this establishment treats their customers.
