Love, love LOVE this spot!!! Our family comes every summer, great meals, HUGE portions, staff is awesome! Can come in off the boat and have fries and wings for supper or a steak dinner! Can sit on beautiful patio in shorts, or take your lady out for a beautiful dinner and dress up. Love this family run operation, been going for 12 years! Cheers!

Beautiful spot to stop and have some food on the boat. Atmosphere, food and staff are wonderful. Lots of docking space for a big boat to come in. Restaurant is very busy every time we have been so we found it easier to reserve a table. Big portions, food pricing is equivalent to any other restaurant of its kind.

Love The Shipwreck! Make a point of visiting every summer. Beautiful location, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, all around fun spot! Food is delicious, I have yet to find that quality in the Perth and Smiths Falls area. We came in off the boat this past wknd lots of variety just have to ask for a children's menu they will explain what they can offer. My sister has an issue with gluten... Just had to ask and they offered many options for her as everything is made fresh. Menu is average price for quality - 15$ For a very large homemade burger with choice of side which I really like. 12 for burg and for 3 dollars you can have any side you would like.. (quite common now a days) Nice option I would say if you aren't overly hungry and would just like to simply have a burger without the fries!!

Also might I add (from reading other reviews) if you go in for supper they will give you the dinner menu which includes chicken, steak, seafood etc.. All you have to do is ask your server and they are more then happy to offer you lunch menu as well. I have eaten chicken wings on numerous occasions in the dining room! The menu is the same in every room... Ask and you shall receive!!!

I wanted to write this review b/c I find more ppl will only write reviews when they have had a negative experience. Should go both ways!!! My family loves this spot and we highly recommend it!!

I live in Rideau Ferry and have frequented the Shipwreck many times...it is definitely located in an awesome spot! That is the ONLY reason I go there. I am totally blown away by the cost each time...the menu is totally out of sync with the audience of boaters! There is not a kids' menu. Menu entrees do not come with any sides...so if you think you are ordering fish and chips...WRONG A DONGA! you will get the fish for $14. (lunch price) and then it is $4.00 extra for fries!! What is that all about?
Most entrees for lunch are $12. and higher with no sides included...a sandwich is a sandwich....no side salad or fries with it for $14. You don't want to look at the dinner menu unless you can take out a second mortgage!
If you go there after 4 p.m....and just want an appie...I have been told that I can only have the appie menu in the bar part...so can't sit out and order that!???
And, that depends on what waitress you get...some will let you and others won't.
I took a friend there once, and we ordered a rack of ribs to share, but then were told we couldn't share!!!
This place needs to be run with more flexibility and a reasonable menu...with no crazy rules as to where you sit to eat certain menu items. They need to run special each day of the week. This place is clearly run for the owners, not the customers.... WRONG management!!!
They have a monopoly there...so people seem to put up with it...but honestly, most people are not that stupid and will only get burnt once.

What a beautiful spot! Stopped by with family for supper on screened in terrace. Lots of options on the menu, pricing similar to any restaurant of its comparison. Food was EXCELLENT!!! Fresh, homemade dishes, large portions. Beer was cold, restaurant and bathrooms immaculate, service was great, staff very friendly.
Cant say enough about this place! Would far rather sit on a patio over looking the lake then concrete in Perth. We can't wait to go back:)

We stopped in Rideau Ferry Sunday at lunch time and ventured into the dining room The Shipwreck built on the site of the old Rideau Ferry Inn. Given the early season and our arrival on the stroke of noon as it opened, it came as no surprise that we were so far the only diners.

The timber-frame hall shows evidence of a good deal of thought and care in construction. Wide pine plank floors survive because of an expanse of harder flooring separating the dining room from the entrance. Queen Anne chairs provide comfort and contrast nicely with the post-and-beam ceiling and exposed stone hearth and box stove. Many windows offer a panoramic view of the Bridge and the waterway.

An elaborate patio enclosure and complex landscaping under the outstretched limbs of a massive shade tree complete the summer decor.

Our pleasant, articulate server directed us to the special, a single-dish rigatoni concoction with a bolongnese sauce, served in a large pasta bowl at $14.00. My wife explained to me that a bolongnese sauce starts with a blend of veal, pork and beef, to which is added a tomato-and-onion sauce, spiced quite mildly, then smoothed with a bit of milk.

I had never tasted a dish like this. As it cooled and I grew accustomed to the flavours, I liked it quite a lot.

If we had received this dish at our favourite Kingston restaurant, Casa, I’d think the chef was having a particularly good day.

With the closing of The Opinicon we’ve been without a good dining room within easy driving distance of Forfar. It looks as though The Shipwreck may well come to fill that void.

Worth noting as well was our stroll on the new municipal docks directly under the Bridge. They should hold eight to ten cruisers in addition to the docking space on the Shipwreck property.

Disaster, this was truly a ShipWRECK.

I had the worst dining experience of my life, absolutely NOT fine dining. I am not at all a satisfied customer, and will never return to this establishment.

This is a restaurant that has much potential given the location, and atmosphere, and I was prepared to pay for my “fine dining” experience, but that is not what we got. We were a group of 15, with reservations, out to celebrate my birthday and the birthday of a friend. (We are not a rowdy bunch by any means, just out to have a good meal and some good conversation).

We all arrived on time for our reservation, the waitress came to get our drink order, but there was no drink menu, when I asked for one the waitress answered “I don’t have one its all up in my head”. But unfortunately I can’t read minds. When the waitress told us about the specials for the night she stood in one spot to tell us instead of coming to both ends of the table, we could not hear what the specials were, as there was live music (the music was great, best part of the night). There were not enough menus for the table, and I felt a bit rushed to have our orders taken. We waited, and waited, and waited for service so much that one of us had to go ask for someone to come and take another drink order (I was 25 minutes with an empty glass). We got water upon arrival, which was luke warm, and we were never given refills for our water. When we finally asked what was going on after 2 hours of waiting and why we hadn’t gotten our dinner yet we were told that they were swamped. The patio was empty at this point, we made reservations so they knew how many of us were coming, and tables that came in after us were getting their food before us. This is not an over exaggeration. We showed up at 6:30 and food did not hit our table until 8:30. Appetizers were served an hour before we saw our entrees. When we finally got our food people had stone cold rice, I had scallop sambuca cappellini where my pasta was sitting in a bath of oil, so much that when I put my pasta on my fork all of the stuff just slid right off, so it was as if I was eating plain white pasta in oil, and I didn’t even have the option to add parmesan cheese. My dish cost $28. My husband got the blackened salmon which was good, it was $32. Five out of the fifteen of us enjoyed their meal. Some of you might be wondering why we ate our food, well after waiting for 2 hours we were starving, and ate what we got. I knew I could not wait any longer to maybe have my meal made properly. About half way through the meal a different waitress came to the table and asked us how things were and we asked if she wanted the truth. She said yes, so we told her about the lack of quality of the food, and she proceeded to say oh “well did your waitress not do any quality control?” Then left the table and no one came back after that until we got our bills. Why ask if you aren’t going to do anything about it?

Then we just asked for the bills, as there was no way we were sticking around for dessert.
For just my husband and I, our bill was $128.88 (this was for 2 main dishes and 5 drinks. No appetizers, no dessert, nothing else extra.) At the bottom of our bill there was the gratuities added, NOT impressed at all by this. It was an automatic 20% added on to the bill, and we were not notified of this at all. Now had we got the food and service expected we would have been fine with this. And it would have been nice had they mentioned this when we made the reservations or had it printed on the menu like most other establishments with this in place. This 20% tip was defiantly not deserved. A couple of the people who were upset with this and asked to talk to the restaurant manager as THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. They waited 20 minutes and asked 3 people before a man came out to speak to them (we believe he was the owner). He came out somewhat intoxicated with his hands in his pockets, and was quite unpleasant to deal with. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK.

Just moved into the area and found this restaurant. On our second night in our home we decided to go to this place, the service was excellent and efficient. The food was fresh and beautifully done. I had the shrimp cargo and can't wait to have it again, the serving of bread was very fresh, and the vegetables were perfectly done to complement the steak. Thank you very much

Have visited The Shipwreck several times in the past and been quite satisfied. On that basis, decided to visit again. Big error. Menu is now drastically overpriced when compared to restaurants of similar nature in Perth and Ottawa. All in party decided on lowest priced item -- fish and chips -- because this had always been reliable in the past, despite the staggering price of $21 (for fish & chips!!!!). Chips were fine but fish -- admittedly generous portion -- was straigtht from a box of uniform, frozen chunks and virtually taste-free. To top it all off, kethup and vinegar for chips were offered in the kind of little plastic envelopes you get at a fast food joint. Seriously! Not even a chip truck would stoop to that level -- but, note, the plastic stuff was served up in a fancy fruit nappy. Very classy. The only plus was that the servce was attentive and the beer, at $5.53 for a full pint, reasonably priced. But twenty-one dollars for even well made F&C is ridiculous. The Shipwreck is now permanently off our lists.
