Their fish and chips used to be stellar. Last order was smaller fish, overbreaded and tasted of cornmeal and seasoning salt. Gone was the luscious fish in a crispy tempura batter. Nothing to write home about. Also coleslaw was meh. Tasted like a handful of bagged cabbage with no seasoning or crunch. What happened?

$15 salad. 3 cherry tomatoes, 2 very small leaves of Artichoke, gross canned old olives, 4 tiny rings of red onion. Italian Salad!!!!!! Salad in a bag is better. How bout a cracker or small slice of bread, maybe some cheese or salami. Ridiculous salad. Atmosphere is great, nice place to hang, just overpriced and underwhelming eats.

The HCC used to be an awesome restaurant, but has really changed. The menu has been drastically reduced - most of the non-fast-food entrees have been eliminated. The chowder, which used to be one of the best in the region, is watery and flavorless. The only good news is that the pizza is still well made, and the desserts (when they are available) are quite good. Unless you want pizza, go somewhere else.
02/16/2010 - a devoted fan of the best restaurant in the PNW
If I could write a love song about a restaurant it would be about the Hawk Creek Cafe. I will simply echo the chorus of fans who will say they serve the best brick oven pizza ever. But take a moment when you try this gem to consider their excellent selection of Oregon wines, desserts to die for and then return the next day for their renowned breakfasts. It is reasonably priced, family-owned and operated and prepares everything fresh. Not many places like this left to enjoy so try it and you won't be disappointed. One recommendation, don't be on a tight schedule; this place is so popular with devoted regulars that it can get busy and there can be a wait. Worth it nonetheless.
