A new chef, a new menu and a new approach makes this worth going to over and over. Simple, beautifully presented apps and entrees, and a new bar menu as of last week, brings my husband and I back almost weekly. Worth trying every single thing on the menu as it changes with the varying availability of organic ingredients. As a gym nut, I want to know my calories count, and the food here is pure, has no fat, (nothing is fried either), and really delicious. Here's to the new chef, keep up the good work!

Don't bother. Disorganized, bad service, awful food.

After walking through this boutique hotel on a random excursion I found the Morris House Hotel and M Restaurant to be an oasis tucked away in center city. The warm and cozy spaces of the hotel not only made me feel at home but the courtyard certainly took me out of the city environment and away from the Septa bus fumes. To my surprise I later brought a few friends to "M" for some quick bites and drinks. The empanadas were fantastic and the prices were just what I needed for my wallet. The hostess was quick to seat us and the waiter was fast on her feet to get us our drink orders. I look forward to going back, maybe even scheduling a few cliental meetings in such a great venue.

Sitting in the garden with my Morris Mary cocktail in my hand- a delicious spicy decadent drink, (one of many summer specials here at this lovely getaway), my wife and I had the most wonderful time last week before our show at the Walnut Street Theatre. We had the pre fixe menu for only $28.00 and zipped off to the theatre, just a block away. The food was light and delicous and the service very friendly and attentive. This is a great place for a before theatre meal, as they get you in and out so you will not be late for your 8:00 curtain. We plan on going back on a night when we do not have a deadline that will cut our time short. Overall, this is really a gem of a place. We loved it.

Light, delicious affordable food is what makes this place a must go-to. We go once a month on our way to the Walnut Street Theatre and really love that it is not only convenient, but has this spectacular garden that makes it really special to eat in. My husband and I love it and plan to go next month too! It is our local favorite.

I walked past this place a few weeks ago and promised myself I would go back, and I was glad I did. My husband and I met for lunch last week and had a wonderful meal of fabulous salads, flat breads and pastas. We tried one of each and shared, having probably the best lunch we have had in years. The service was prompt and very friendly, and the bartender told us about her new summer cocktails, which we plan on trying real soon when we are finished our work day. All in all it was a relaxing, beautiful afternoon and escape from our jobs and we can't wait to show it off to our friends. It is my new find and plan to tell everyone about it. I am counting the days until we meet again in the lovely garden-it is a very romantic place to meet.

Six of us went on a busy Friday night...sat in the courtyard (which is lovely)until a sudden rain threatened the evening...the staff somehow managed a difficult process with grace, placing us inside at a very nice table where we went on to enjoy an excellent meal. Ambience, service, and cuisine...terrific!

A great find for the city! Fun food, reasonably priced, interesting beers and a great summer cocktail list will keep me coming back many times this season. Gotta love that you are right in the middle of Jeweler;'s Row and you feel like you are somewhere exotic. A great escape for lunch too, for those of us who have mundane jobs and can use a getaway from our drywall lives. Would recommend it to anyone.

The garden, filled with azaleas, peonies and hostas, was in full bloom this week when I went for lunch- and nothing could have been better than sitting there in the sun, taking it all in. Service was friendly and fast and we got in an out of there during our lunch break. The menu has great flat breads, pastas and sandwiches that you can't get anywhere else, so it was refreshing to have new options for us to choose from. Prices are very fair for sitting in such a lovely place. Will be going back real soon.

I can't say enough about how much my friend and I enjoyed our lunch last week while sitting in the garden at M. There is no place like it in the city, and we hated the thought of going back to work. Once you walk into the place you feel transformed into anther world. The food was simple and yummy, I ate every bite of my delicious steak salad, and loved the chrysanthemum punch their great bartender came up with. She has a list of specialty cocktails that are named after flowers and they are delicious. Try the Tiger Lilley!!! Overall it was a relaxing wonderful experience. Helpful, kind staff and prompt service made it easy to eat and get back to work, which was the last thing we wanted to do on Friday. But if you have just an hour, go to M for the most perfect escape. You won't be disappointed.

Simple, delicious food with great prices. Happy hour is worth it since they serve really nice wines by the glass for 6 bucks. Now that we have had a week of warm weather I hear the garden will be opening soon and I plan to be there every night with my co workers, hanging and chilling. It is a great place for a date, or when you just want to be with friends. Like it for an affordable, fun night. Would def. rec. it to others.

this little neighborhood restuarant tucked away on 8th should be known to everyone. Its simple fair priced menu has so many wonderful taste treats...especially the bruschettas. Gorgonzola with fig marmalade, pesto with fresh tomato and mozzarella, truffle mushroom with olives, Delice de bourgone with honey and the good old tradtionale (but the best traditionale I have ever had) make this my favorite restaurant in Wash West. The garden is so serene, set back away from all the city noise, and the many menu choices oveall make this a place to go back to time and time again. A great martini, reasonable wines by the glass and bottles, and delicious choices for food add up to a total home run eating here. Gotta try it, it is just fabulousl. A real find. Will tell my friends, who are used to higher prices and mediocre foodl. Spring is almost here, can't wait to get to the garden, sip on my martini and sample the bruschettas!‎

On the way to the Walnut Street Theater, we stopped in at "M"....boy are we glad we did! Besides good wine, we had a wonderful meal with appetizers, ravioli, rack of lamb, cheese cake, and...did I mention the wine?
The service was incredibly personal and we felt at home. In fact the only down side of the evening was that we didn't take the owner's suggestion to skip the play and have another glass!
We will be back.

Loved everything we had; was reasonably priced, the wine list is small but really good for the price per glass, and the bar is handsome and comfortable. My girlfriend will come back, it was a nice way to spend the evening together.

We stopped in to the bar on Saturday night in this cute little restaurant and had a great time. It is a fun little place, tucked away on 8th near Walnut. For years I have walked by, not knowing what it was, and was happy to see that it is now a restaurant. My boyfriend and I were on our way to another dinner party so we could not eat, but our very positive experience in this perfect neighborhood bar will bring us back again. Loved the whole feel of the place. Will go back soon.

We ate at M for Valentine's day as well and just loved it. Not knowing what kind of place it was, we went online to investigate and really liked the setting framed by this amazing garden. The room was full of young happy couples, and the vibe was romantic and festive. We also loved the lovely presentation of the food and the delicious langoustine and rack of lamb which were specials of the day. Their sweet little bar is just such a gem of a place, and the bartender is very knowledgeable about good wines to choose to match your meal. We definitly plan on going back again and will bring our buddies with us. The regular menu is so fairly priced that it makes it easy to go out and have a great meal- if you catch their prix-fixe menu of $28.00 a person from 5-7:00 it is the best deal in town.

Had a great meal, really good service and a really nice wine flight to complement our Valentine meal we had last weekend at M. My fiance and I treated ourselves to a special menu and tried the new wine flights they offer, and really enjoyed matching the different wines with our meal. We had grilled langoustines, rack of lamb and a light dessert, each complimented by a perfect match by their bartender. He was very knowledgeable and made our night by offering this special tasting. I would recommend this small neighborhood restaurant to everyone for its simplicity, fair prices and ambiance. The service all around was attentive and happy, which was really nice. Will go back for sure and bring our friends.

Life is good when you can sit at the romantic bar at M Restaurant, enjoy some great cocktails that the bartender has invented, and have a dinner of small plates that are inexpensive and delicious. I love coming here with my husband and pretending we are in a European city, because it feels like it when you are at this bar. By far the best kept secret in town, we look forward to getting away from it all and enjoying a night here. I know others should try it out, but hope that it stays as intimate as it always feels when I am there. Just a great all around restaurant and bar to support in the neighborhood.

My wife says it all; if you want an escape, right on 8th Street in center city to another world, come to M Bar. It is romantic and perfect for catching up with our busy lives. It is a place we mark on our calenders to go to, and look forward to our time together when we do so. I would recommend it to anyone who needs some quality time in a classy place that is totally affordable and right here in our great city, without having to fly to Europe!

After only dining in the garden this summer, I went back this week on a cold rainy night to enjoy a candle lit dining room that just warmed me up right away. The food was as good, if not better than my summer experience. Somehow the pastas and new entrees just fit for the awful weather, and I loved the feeling of being taken care of there. The staff is always pleasant and so patient to explain the menu, and the bartender is great too. He if funny and loves a crowd. I plan on taking my office gals there for their Happy Hour- one of the most elegant bars in the city, where you can talk to your friends and make new ones. Hope to go back real soon.

Was just great all around. Wanted a simple, delicious meal and this place is a winner. Got to go back soon. The sweet intimate bar is a great way to start the night, and the indoor dining room is simply done and warmly lit. It was too chilly to eat outdoors last week, but my husband and I enjoyed eating indoors nonetheless. We live in the neighborhood and are happy that this place is here for us to almost call our own. Plan to definitely go back.

My friend and I ate under the tent that is up for the next two months because of weddings at M restaurant last week. We thought we would not like it, but it was not only glamorous, but we felt like we were guests at the fanciest wedding, but we were sitting next to people we wanted to sit next to! As long as the temperature is moderate, it is a perfect place to enjoy a yummy, fair priced meal of really interesting pastas, salads and tapas. I loved the sound of the fountain in the background which just help us both relax from a very stressful day at work. I walk by this place all the time, and was so happy to finally cross the gate into this amazing garden. Go for a great after work cocktail, like we did, and then stay for a few bites to enjoy the garden while you can. Inside is lovely too, so we know we will be back when the colder weather sets in, but we plan to eat outside in the tented area as much as we can before the winter comes. Would recommend it to couples, groups and singles- the bar was a cozy place to start our night. Overall, it was just fab.

I work in the area and have always walked by this garden, wondering what it is. But now I know it is such a hidden treasure that I want to keep it to myself, but they deserve to have the public know about how wonderful it is. Last night was a perfect fall night, and being in this place is like being in another world. Our group of three shared all kinds of delicious tapas style choices on the menu which are so fair priced that we know that for the money, this is the best food you can get in all of Philadelphia! There is seating indoors too and a lovely bar so we plan on coming in the colder nights too where sitting outside won't be the focus anymore. But our night couldn't have been more perfect, and my friends and I are thrilled to have finally ventured beyond the gates to discover this true hidden gem. Find time to go while the weather is perfect so you can really take it all in though. We will be back as soon as we can!

My husband and I ate at M last night, which was the first fall like night in the city. With almost a full moon, the garden was just washed in lovely light, and the setting was just breathtaking. To start we had figs with gorgonzola, a brushcetta sampler and an heirloom tomato salad with fresh sliced mozarella, delicious. Then we had the buccatini pasta with a red sauce and pancetta and the steak St. James, both perfectly done and superb. The food here is exceptional, the service friendly and attentive and the garden just a total experience you can get with no other restaurant in town. We plan to go back many times, as there are just too many fantastic choices to choose from on the menu to satisfy one in just one visit. The Morris House Hotel offers an incredible backdrop to the garden with all its history and grandeur. We are blessed to have such a fine place,at such affordable prices in our city. We will be back with friends very soon.

Loved the place, everything about it- the food, the atmosphere in the garden, the cute waitresses, the service all were just great. We went with some friends and we all tried a bunch of different small plates and the food is not only reasonably priced, but really tasty. Unusual combos for bruchettas and other dishes made the menu really interesting and fun to order from. In the end our bill was inexpensive, and knowing that you are eating in a one of a kind place with the garden, it makes for a really nice place for a date or a group to gather. Seating was offered indoors too since it was a bit windy outside, but the wind died down 20 minutes later and we all just we so grateful that we had this amazing setting to enjoy. Would recommend this to everyone!

My group of 7 ate at M restaurant tonight and had the most glorious time. We started with festive drinks that are offered on their summer cocktail list, and then began our food fest. They have the best menu of many different small plates, all using organic vegetables we heard, grown in the owner's own garden. They served an heirloom tomato salad that was to die for, the best tomatoes I have ever had. Then we had an empanada sampler, which was surprisingly light and just delicious. We also shared a bruschetta sampler, a rocket arugula and beet salad, a charcuterie plate and a stack of grilled veggies, all absolutely delicious. The best part though, were the pastas and the sirloin strip, a new addition to the menu. At $18.00 it is the most expensive item on the menu, but also the best deal in town. The steak was flavorful and just totally mouth watering. It came with sauteed shitake and portobello mushrooms as I recall, and had a chimchora sauce
on the side. All good stuff. The service was so friendly and helpful, and the summer wines by the glass had us wishing we could have more. All in all it was not only a perfect night, but a perfect combo of food, ambience (the garden is just so quiet, peaceful and cool to sit in on a hot summer night), and service. I would definitely recommend this to as many people as I can...they have a perfect model for a perfect summer night's fun. Will go back again soon!

Just had a great relaxing meal at what has to be the nicest outdoor restaurant in Philadelphia.. The location is great. You are away from the street IN the garden of a beautiful historic home so it is beautiful and QUIET and you do not feel like you are in a big city.
The food is excellent- tapas style although you can get full course meals, the service fine, and all put together it is a menu for a wonderful casual, relaxing meal. It is now on my list of favorite restaurants, a place I would love to introduce friends to and I know I am going to return soon.

Ummm...yeah. this place was the worst place I could have chosen to eat. The wait staff was inexperienced and unwilling to help me make a choice from the menu. Food was over priced, unimpressive and without flavor. Since there are no lights AT NIGHT it became so dark that i could even see walking out. It's obvious that the owners are cutting some major no-no's with this place. As if that wasn't enough the kitchen and bar close @ 10pm! (wait...what?). For center city these standards are pretty much my reasons to stay away. Why would i give my money to a place that won't even give mt light to see what I'm eating. Why go here when there are so many better places in Philly to eat.
