I ate at oaks on Sunday. Food was good and our waitress was great. I did notice one of the older waitress kept coughing in her hand and then. She never washed her hands after she coughed in them. She then handled cups and food.
I was shocked at this. Seeing we are in a flu season that has become very serious. I watched her cough in her hands at least a dozen times during my breakfast. It made me very uncomfortable. We left and we don't plan on returning.

Great brunch experience. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food. I will try dinner & lunch as soon as possible.

Visited Oak recently for lunch with out -of -town guests -- we were disapointed. My salad was wilted, the grilled meatloaf sandwich tasteless but the sweet potato fries were ok. The tuna was good but the bun tasted a little stale.I had bragged about this place for months -- I was sorry I took my guests there. Is there a new chef or a new owner????

At lunch today, I had a spinach salad, which was fairly good, but not worth $12. The menu was a beat-up photocopy, and there was no soup that day, which I find unusual for a supposedly upscale place at lunch. The air conditioning was on so high, it was freezing in there! I'm surprised, as I've always heard great things about Oak. Maybe I'll try it again sometime to see if it was just an off day.

We came to Providence for a great dining experience and most definetly got it. The combination of the charming atmosphere, the well versed attentive staff and really great food was what we were looking for and exactly what we received. As to not limit ourselves on taste, many of us ordered different plates and shared. We started off the evening with both lamb and tuna lollipops. The moiste lamb was served over a bib salad with a combination of fruits and vegetables that I would have never thought to put togther but seemed to work wonderfully... manderine orange slices, roasted beats dried cherries and to top it off the dressing was a mixture of aromatic flavors that really brought out the flavors of all the different pieces of the salad.
By the end of the evening, I had tried a beautifully prepared duck which essentially melted in my mouth, a piece of bacon wrapped filet served with shitake mushroom mashed potatoes (the special of the night and my favorite), crab cakes which were absolutely wonderful, an amazing stir fry which rivaled all others,
Dessert was really good too... an apple cobbler served warm out of the oven and a pleasantly moist bread pudding made with a sweet bread ended the evening with everyone speaking of our next trip back to the resteraunt.

The food is excellent as is the service. Atmosphere is a friendly neighborhood restaurant, although small in stature they are large in friendliness and excellence of food.
