Reviews of Ruth's Chris Steak House - Providence

I recently dined at Ruths Chris Steakhouse with several family members and friends for a special occassion. While I had heard mixed reviews of this restaurant, I took their national reputation into consideration and decided to try it out and my expectations were exceeded greatly!!!! From the moment the (complementary) valet attendant greeted me at my car, to the warm hospitable welcome from the hosts, to the impeccable proffesional service, and finally the friendly and accomodating management, my experience was spectacular. My guests and I enjoyed a four course meal at prices that are to be expected at a prime steakhouse. While this was no 'cheap night out', I expected to spend money when I made the decision to dine at Ruths Chris. The atmosphere was elegant yet inviting, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff helped our group select the most perfect dinner. Upon reading previous reviews of this restaurant, I urge those guests and anyone else who is skeptical of dining at Ruths to go ahead and give it a try. While we did not take advantage, we did notice that they are offering a two for $89 deal as well which I will be sure to return for. Thank you Ruths Chris for a wonderful night out with family and friends, and for money well spent!!

On my first occasion upon visiting this steakhouse in Providence, RI, I was greeted at the door by two hosts, who welcomed my guest and I in a very professional, yet sincere manner. I was shown by the front of house the entire dining room as whole by request, being it my first visit. It was a very pleasant, warm, romantic setting accompanied by beautiful European-esque furnishings. The southern side of this restaurant features a large array of windows and glass doors opening to an outside dining deck which overlooks the Charles river in Providence where WaterFire is usually held.
After being seated, my guest and I were offered an impressive wine list, as well as full dinner menus. I took the time to ask our waitress, who was positive and confident, about the cuisine and it's preparation. She seemed more than happy to explain, in full, who everything on the menu was prepared, as well as exclusive Ruth's Chris techniques and recipes. Being a student chef myself, I followed the informative conversation quite well and was pleased to find that even the waitresses were able to present the menu items in such detail; she may as well been a chef herself!
The menu is offered as 'a la carte. You can order entrees and side dishes independently, which leaves option to the creation of your own, custom meal. This aids in being able to share with different members of your party. The 'a la carte portions are more than enough for one person; I suggest sharing with other guests.
I ordered the veal osso-buco ravioli as an appetizer, a 24oz NY strip steak, asparagus with hollandaise, and julienne potatoes. The meal was delicious. On occasion, an assistant would arrive at our table with bread and replacement drinks. They attended our table quite frequently, assuring our content and asking if there was anything we needed. The service was very high class and prompt.
I enjoyed the dining experience at Ruth's Chris very much. I recommend it to any group, whether it be a private date, or an office meeting. I know I'll be dining there again, eager for what seems to be the best that any steakhouse can offer as far as food and service go.

Unlike the other reviewers, I think the value is quite good. I did not suffer from sticker shock. The steak is, by far, the best in Providence. The aroma of that 500 degree sizzling plate it quite wonderful. Flemings is here and, while quite good, it's really more on par with Capital Grille. Both of which are a step below Ruth's Chris.
The service is exactly what you expect in an upscale steak house. Our usual server is extremely attentive. I no longer am asked what I'd like to drink. It just comes to the table. As does my chop salad.
The atmosphere is quite elegant and tasteful. The setting on Waterplace Park is a perfect urban location.
Yes, you will spend a few buck on dinner here. But it exactly the experience you'd expect for such a fine dining establishment...whether that be here in Providence or in Boston or New York...

Had so looked forward to their steak. Service, food, and portions were disgraceful. Steak had no flavor whatsover. Very very dissapointing.

I have eaten at Ruth's Chris steakhouses for a long time........this is not the best one.by far.........In Sarasota they have parking and valet .no cost for valet, just tipping.......and the food id definatley what you would expect for the price.......in downtown Orlando it is the same but a little more stuffy..........if and when Flemings comes to Providence you will find that you will like it more because it is a New York and more Providence kind of placed than Ruth's..........I think they (Ruth's)will have a tough time competing with Capitol Grille and so many other great restaurants in this area............BUT........this is still a very good restaurant...maybe not for Providence where restaurants are more important than sports.

Stay away!!! Prices are outrageous! More than Boston and comparable to NY! $9 to valet park(plus tip) is ridiculous for Providence. Steak came out rare instead of medium and the taste was fair. Saw an acquaintance there while dining and he said he'd never go back!
