I have been going to Gil's since the early 80' and have never found a better place for Chicken in Central Illinois. We currently live 70 miles and frequently ride to Gil's. Great Motorcycle destination. Great food for the $"s.

First of all, what restaurant in the middle of nowhere doesn't take credit or debit cards in this day and age. Oh,but by all means you can use the atm machine located in their bar for an additional 2.50 fee. Uggh! Secondly, I ordered the fried chicken with augratin potatoes. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was plenty juicy. However it was soooo salty I couldn't eat it. Literally left with my mouth hurting from the salty wing I tried to eat. Definitely not worth the hour drive. Wont be going there again.

My husband and I had dinner at this place with my family for Mother's Day. First they placed part of our party on corner's of the table when we had made a reservation. We asked to have a full table so people actually had room to eat and we were told,"Mother's Day is one of our busiest days, that's the best we could do." Next the waitress accidentally poured Au jus down my husband's back while serving the plates. He was okay, she apologized and felt horrible, they did not offer him anything, dessert, free meal nothing. Next when the waitress finally came back to refill our drinks, she poured water down my husband's back!!! This is NOT a joke, this really happened! My husband asked if it was a joke and tried to laugh it off but I could tell he was angry. It went all the way down into his pants! The waitress was crying and we kept telling her it was okay. She brought him a towel. We expected a manager to come over and we waited and waited. Finally a head waitress stopped while heading to another table and said, "Sorry about that sir, if you would like to bring back your dry cleaning bill we would love to reimburse you for it." WHAT??? First off it was a cotton polo that may cost 5.75 to clean and we live north 2 hours away! That is it!!?? You couldn't comp his meal? We were so angry and told them we don't live around here, she responded with Oh I'm sorry. That's it! I went up to pay our bill and they don't take a credit card! It was 2009!! My cousin had to pay for our meal with his cash. We will not and have not ever returned. A little goes a long way and they should have taken care of it for him. I was once a waitress and the restaurant I worked at would have NEVER let him pay for his meal.

We have eaten at Gil's for many years, and have always received excellent food, and service. Nice place to visit. The Wed night Chicken dinner specials are AWESOME!

When you go on a wednesday, the amount of people that walk through the doors beats out any fast food place in the area. In 5 Hours, nearly 500 people are served, and thats on a slow day. You must realize that every piece of chicken is not exactly the same. I know many people come out to Gil's on a wednesday and have done so for years because of the chicken, but given that the chicken supplier that Gil's used to have went out of business, you shouldn't blame them for having to get another source of a massive amount of chicken.

We drive quite a ways to go to Gill's. We love their wing dinner. We went this month, got our wings and they were so small, almost tasted burnt, the quality of the chicken was bad. Usually plump, large pieces, delicious. Owner wouldn't talk to us because she was too busy. Told waitress to tell us she would take $2 off of the bill. Why? We didn't like the chicken. Finally owner came back. I won't go into detail but right in front of all of her customers she raised her voice telling us that she is struggling too, and on and on. Why should she have to pay for our dinners. WELL, WE DIDN'T LIKE THE FOOD, IT WASN'T THE SAME AND WE DIDN'T EAT IT. No one asked her about struggling and we didn't care. Went to Gill's to get a good meal and have a good time. It went downhill and to us, we aren't worried about the economy, we and all of the customers there went out to eat, not because of struggling, but to expect the same meal we always get. She made a complete fool of herself. No customer service at all. She even told us to take our business elsewhere. Well, of course we will!
