This review is a long time In coming… 47 years to be almost exact!

I was driving to California from New York for the first time. I was looking for a place for breakfast and found biscuit Hill off the interstate. I went inside and it was only seating at the counter in red cushion stools. I was waiting at the counter, it was packed inside. Finally, a server came up to me, and she said, “well?“ I told her that I was waiting for the menu and she said to me, “menu? Honey, all we serve here are biscuits and gravy.” And then I said to her, “biscuits and gravy? What’s that” and then she said to me , “honey, where you from?“ And when I told her I was from upstate New York, she turned around like she was talking to the entire restaurant and yelled out with a very loud voice,” hey everybody, we got a Yankee in here!“ I felt like I wanted to run out of the place, and she looked at me and said, “Bill (the cook), give us number A for the Yankee!“ Just a few minutes later, I was handed a plate with two large biscuits, country gravy, scrambled eggs, grits, and a steaming hot cup of coffee.

I gobbled up the food. It was so tasty! I can still remember the food, that’s how great it was! And when I was finished, I got the servers attention and I said, “ How much do I owe you” and she said to me, “southern hospitality, honey. This one’s on us!“ I was so touched. I was just a 22-year-old kid. So I left her a five dollar tip on the table and walked out. And as I got to the front door, I heard her say in a very loud voice, “hey everybody, the Yankee left me a five dollar tip!!“ waving the bill in the air! and then everybody who was sitting at the counter began handing out bills to the server. Way too funny but a piece of Americana that I will never forget! Thank you biscuit Hill for being the inspiration that led me to become an executive chef!

I have been eating here since I was small I am now 58. This was my Daddys favorite place on the way to Tennessee to see my grand parents. The biscuits, and gravy are to die for.
Your on my bucket list before I die to eat there just one more time!

All my family has passed including my father so we dont get to go anymore. Our last visit was 1996.

Make this a tradition with your family's travels they are wonderful!#!##
