If you're interested in good, I mean good Italian food, Umberto's is the place. It's a small unassuming restaurant, but that's part of the charm. Food was the best authentic Italian I've had in a while. I grew up in South Jersey with Italian parents and this is how my father cooked. Be warned... this is not a chain restaurant with too much salt and over the top flavoring. The food is fresh, you can taste the tomatoes, the bread nice and crusty and the marinara is simple but full of flavor, I would say uncomplicated. Portions are family sized but reasonably priced. Our waiter was friendly and attentive and the owner came by after our meal to make sure everything was good. We will be bringing friends on our next visit to share with them this little gem.

This evening was our inaugural visit to Umberto's and we thoroughly enjoyed it! We arrived around 7:30 so at a time when other diners were finishing. This allowed the owner time to visit and chat with us as he served us fresh homemade bread with our wine. Norma ordered the flounder filet special with sautéed vegetable medley -- delicious! I ordered zucchini parmesan and we each had al dente angel hair pasta with oil and garlic, which was heavenly. We look forward to returning soon to try many more Umberto classic Italian delights. Next time spumoni for dessert ...
