What a great find! Who knew that Frenchtown, NJ would have such a wonderful restaurant, with dishes that are affordable--I've been back several times!!!--and a bar that helps you unwind after a long day at work. And there's even entertainment with no cover charge every single week! I've been to their Thursday Open Mic Night, and also enjoyed a meal recently on a Sunday afternoon with musicians on the porch. I'm so happy that The National Hotel reopened and that the new owners and staff really care about the customers. I cannot say enough about the quality of the meals I've had, both lunch and dinner, not to mention the fun my family and I have had in their downstairs bar, the Rat! Not to be missed!!!

This place is great! There is finally a good restaurant in the area that isn't overpriced. You can get a perfectly cooked burger and the best fries or order more upscale for a special night out. The specials are usually really good, creative, I loved the lamb. outstanding oysters, too, Also, the waitstaff is very professional, excellent bartenders.

The Food here is GREAT!!!! My wife and I have been here many times, food was great here every time. The Menu isn't too large and not too small. Perfect menu by Ron. But the service is not great. i have had each server that works there wait my table. Kevin is not a good people person and has no idea what he's talking about. Ryan has no idea about what things are that are on their menu. Servers should know their menu espercially after 3 or 4 months. Chris and Brenda are usually Okay though. One time kevin had my table and he did not even bring us drinks until we asked him 3 times. The owner Pete would not leave us alone. He came to our table and just told us about his life while my wife and I were just trying to have a quiet meal Together.

Loved the NEW National Hotel. After coming back, after years, the NEW National is just great. The food was very good, well priced and tasty. The service was good, needs some polishing up, but far from disappointing. I read some of the other reviews and I have to say we got seated immediately, our water was poured as we sat. The place was full of happy sounding customers. I will go back again and suggest it to everyone I know

This place is great! The food is incredibly reasonably priced. The presentation of the food could be a little better but it was delicious. The service was good. Very personable. The one complaint I had was the bread should be warmed and not cold and the butter could've been a little softer. The bartender was great. We had a drink before dinner and our martini was perfect! She was very nice and great to talk to so we went back after dinner and had an "after dinner" drink. One of the signature dessert martini's. Very refreshing! I would recommend this place over and over again! We will be back.

Service here is awful! Waited 20 minutes before the waiter came to take our drink order. Almost walked out - we should have. In the meantime had to get my own drink menu after asking for one. Mussels were bad - had to send back to the kitchen. Had to ask for rolls and waiter asked how many? - as many as other table got would be fine. Sill waiting for the rolls. Meal came out and it was luke warm. Didn't refill glasses or ask for additional drinks. Waiter only interested in getting other tables ready. Two managers did not stop by tables even though they were in the dining cleaning tables too. It's all about the next table - not yours. Food was OK, but service the worst we had in years - never again!

I am so disappointed, once again. Why can't this place get there act together?!!! You go in to be seated or get a drink and no one acknowledges you! I've seen countless times people walking out because they don't acknowledge customers. Takes forever to get a glass of water when seated at tables. Then they go and cut off the drinking time to 10pm on a Friday? WTF! and what is up with that? Food could improve too. Get the staff some "professional" help so this place can run smoothly, I hope they can get it together before the summer crowd comes in! Yikes!Oh yeah, and when you serve your bread, it would be nice not to have hard cold butter.

I don't know what Jodi is talking about.. with everything on the menu under $20.. she must have got sick for eating too much :). Great food, great staff and I am sure that things will only go from great to super. I will keep going back and keep eating at this great Landmark

Thrilled when this landmark re-opened, we were excited to have dinner during the holiday with our family. Wow, was just awful and at $50/pp we felt raped for how bad the food was. We literally felt sick afterward. Stop there for a drink (if you can get a seat at the bar -- it has quite an in-crowd following and they'll sit there for hours sipping a $10 martini) but pass on having dinner. Go to the Frenchtown Inn for a meal -- they're solid and the quality of their food is pretty reliable. Frenchtowners are eager to support the new owners of the National but I fear it will suffer the same fate as Lilas: in the end, it was terrible food and in today's economic climate, who wants to waste money on a horrible meal. We won't go there again.

The food and delicious. Easy going and professional staff that want to make sure you are well cared for. I can only imagine that things will get better and better as they fall into their comfort zone. Trust me the kitchen staff will start stretching their wings soon to give you even more amazing things to try. Tell them what you like food businesses with any sense listen to their clientele. This chef has that sense.

An enjoyable, well priced dining experience in a fabulous historic hotel that we in Frenchtown and beyond are ecstatic to have open again.
