I have never written a review about a restaurant until today. I have eaten and ordered food from East Cafe for many years and have always thought is was really good. Today, i ordered food and must admit it was absolutely awful. From the dumplings to the sesame shrimp and even the dynamite roll. No one was happy and the food did not seem to be fresh or cooked properly. We did not finish the food and all thought this would be the last time we would order food. It is terribly disappointing after all these years to see the quality diminish to this degree.

Waitress unable to explain dishes. Ordered lobster Cantonese which was supposed to be 1 and 3/4 pound lobster. Lobster meat from tail and claws seemed to be missing. Shells and sauce used to disguise missing meat. Sesame shrimp and chicken dish was good, nothing exceptional. After food served, waitress never checked to see if anything else was needed. Service could be much better.

After the old owners left they changed the chicken.. The old place used unusually high quality white bread meat chicken..the new place uses some strange spongy springy artificially tender hybrid of chicken... Try it and u will see what i mean.. Also the bbq ribs are no longer good like they used o be.. What a shame.. This USED the be the best in morris county. No more. Go to Hunan Taste in denville.

What you all need to know is that Johnny and Nancy SOLD East Cafe 2 weeks ago (mid April, 2011) And it is NO LONGER what is was. Sam and Alex are gone from the sushi bar....We ordered last Fri eve and what we received was LOW quality sushi that looked like it was hacked together by a 6 year old. The fish was BLAND and FLAVORLESS. The chinese food was less than edible, again NO flavor. As a customer of East's since day one over 10 years ago, I can only say-STAY AWAY unless you like crappy sushi and chinese food. Rated as minus many stars.

Hi , when you are enjoying your delicious food delivered to your home from East Cafe' and highly appreciating the high quality and terrific service of it , please do not forget those deliver guys, never. Just only for that LIGHTENING FAST service, they alway count their time in miliseconds and beyond that , count their police tickets in dozens. Except for these spiritual undergoings they also have to endure and suffer the potential accidents and lurking robberys. Even though they clearly know that they are living under the pressure from the danger and sometimes, even life taking ,however, considering the generosity and especially the responding smile from your face ,they are always satisfied with the reward. My name is Mike and I used to work there as one of the part-time deliver guys when I was studying in some school there(It was 2007,and now I am back in China). thank you ,enjoy your food and new year!

Not fresh, bad tasting, take out not matching order on other occasions. Sweet and sour soup was pretty much tasteless, spicy hot, boiled water. Had to wait 1/2 hour for it and got stomach sick after wards. This place used to be OK, but lately has tanked both as food quality and service. Stay away.

The quality of the food is excellent - and it's not "typical" mall style Chinese as someone mentioned. When you order bbq ribs, you have to ask them to have extra sauce on them or extra "sauced" otherwise, they're bland and have no yummy goodness hoisin on them. The only thing I ever experienced as far as "rudeness" is that once while dining there I was really enjoying the crispy noodles and the "homemade duck sauce" (yes, that's what they call it and you can even get it in your takeout order if you know to ask for it like this) - the homemade duck sauce is really good - blows the stuff in the little packets away... its like a mix of pumb sauce and citrus or something... anyway I was with my friend and we ate all the the sauce they had given us in the small shallow bowl they put it in and we asked for more - the girl said "you are eating too much, you will spoil your dinner" - I thought that was RUDE.

I totally agree with the 7/17 post. The food is really good and the quality excellent even though you wouldnt expect it for its location. BUT be warned, I have had an attitude thrown at me while calling in a take out order as well. So much so that I have ended up not ordering from there once. Maybe it was the same waitress??? Who knows, but its happened several times for no reason.

The food here is high quality for a typical strip mall asian cuisine establishment. I recommend the food, but I will never eat in this restaurant again. The atmosphere is fine; nice decorations and seating, but the service I experienced had to be the worst of my life.

We were greeted pleasantly, everything was fine until our waitress entered. Her attitude was way off. We were treated poorly. She took our order quickly and disappeared for 30 minutes. At which point she brought out a single egg roll that I had ordered. In the mean time other customers with different servers had come in, sat, and were already eating their entrees.

She literally threw the egg roll down on the table and almost knocked the silverware off in the process because she was in such a rush to disappear before we could possible ask for; god forbid, another drink or condiment of some sorts.. or even more appropriate: where's the rest of our food?!

So... you might think she was busy.. Nope.. As far as I could tell, we were her only table.. and she stood over at the sushi station staring at us uncomfortably during the entire meal. I felt like I was some kind of intruder during my meal.

It got even stranger, as she never came back to the table after the egg roll.. the rest of the waiters shared responsibility for delivering our food and then wrapping it up and presenting us with the check.

All-in-all... if you want good tasting chinese in this area.. get it from here.. but TAKE OUT ONLY, unless you want to risk getting this person as your waitress. I have to admit, the other servers seemed pleasant and attentive; we just got unlucky on our first visit I suppose.

PS I left 15% hoping that the waiters who took over for our nutty waitress would take the tip since they clearly were the only ones that cared we were waiting so long... usually I leave 25%

The sushi bar was excellent!!!! The presentation of the dishes was attractive with alot of attention going into each dish. The assortment of fish is fantastic. The sushi masters Sam and Alex are both knowledgeable and cordial.
