It's hit or miss. Been eating there for 40 years, so can't be that bad.

This will be a very complimentary review. We visit Oak Island on a regular basis and always eat at Jones Seafood because it's one of the best on the island, if not THE BEST. If I'm not mistaken, this restaurant has been open since the 1960s, decades longer than any other seafood restaurant on the island. The owners are very friendly, experienced in what they do and they run a good family business. This is why they frequently have a line of customers waiting to get seated during the busy summer months. If the food wasn't good, locals wouldn't even come here to eat and this restaurant wouldn't have such a good reputation. As far as I'm concerned, they have the best seafood and we're always satisfied with it. That doesn't mean there will never be anything at all wrong because that would be nearly impossible for any restaurant. This isn't a perfect world. I noticed that there are a few negative reviews on this site; people almost always complain faster than giving compliments. Of all the years that we've gone to this restaurant, we've never experienced any of the complaints that were mentioned in a few of the other reviews. You should disregard those reviews and give this restaurant a try. The prices are very fair and the food tastes great. However, if you're looking for a fancy restaurant where you won't get your money's worth, then you won't be happy here!

Worst dinning experience I believe I have ever experienced -- We finally just had to leave. We went to the grocery store and then home to prepare our own meal. Incredible and unbelievable. Hope you have better luck...

We went to Jones tonight, the hushpuppies were hot and so good! They also gave us some extra to take home with us at no extra charge. The waitress was a little inattentive but they were busy. Our food was hot, I had the deep fried shrimp and there was plenty on the small order. We also had crab legs and a couple of the platters. Everything was good. The people were friendly and we had a nice dinner. Prices were very reasonable. Glad we gave it a try.

Our group has gone there several times a year for the past twelve years or so. The service and wait staff is as good as you will find. The only thing I've ordered in the past dozen visits is the Snapper Carolina. While different chefs vary the recipe to some degree. I happen to think It's the best they've got. I haven't had a bad meal or expierience there ever.

I have been eating at Jones Seafood since the late 1960s. The family atmosphere and friendly wait staff, great food, and there is always a member of the Jones family there to speak to us. Eating at Jones has become a family tradition.

Jones Seafood House has some of the best hushpuppies with an incredible cinnamon butter to slather on. We went last week, searching for some good, fried, seafood. They brought me a sweet tea, and it was rancid tasting. I asked the waiter for a different batch, and that batch was even worse. So, I asked for water. I had to beg to get that refilled. I ordered the fried scallops and oyster dinner. The scallops were overcooked, and had too much breading on them, and were overcooked, turning them chewy. Not very good. The oysters were mealy and once again, not very good. Plus, they were tiny. More breading than oyster.
Another person in my party had the fried flounder, and it was supposed to be bone free, but it came with a bunch of bones. It was fried to a crisp.
The third member of our party ordered the big platter filled with a variety of seafood entrees. He was not happy with any of them.
The fourth member of our party had a steak, and it was not of good quality.
All in all, it was a bad dinner and we won't be going back. We would rather go to Captain Stanley's where the food is excellent.
