Just got back from a wonderful meal at Four Winds Cafe. Chef Steve hit another one out of the park tonight with his Napa Valley wine dinner!

First course: Cedar smoked short ribs (O.M.G!) on tossed wild greens with avocado vinaigrette.
Wine pairing: '11 Banshee Pinot Noir.

The short ribs were falling apart tender and the avocado vinaigrette accented the meat nicely. The Pinot Noir was a wonderful pairing, setting off the meat without over powering it.

Second course: Selection of high quality California cheeses and fruit with basil infused crostinis.
Wine pairing: '10 Ernst & Co Chenin Blanc.

The crostinis were the weak link here and I'm looking for something to find fault with. While I would not pick this wine to drink by itself, with the cheeses and fruit it came alive.

Third course: Citrus grilled jumbo sea scallops on Saffron couscous served with grilled asparagus.
Wine pairing: '10 Sticky Beak Chardonnay

I've know for a while that seafood is Chef Steve's strong suit. This course proved it once again. The scallops were grilled to perfection! The wine was a little too subtle because it could not break through the citrus taste of the scallops. But again, I'm looking for something to complain about.

Dessert: Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake
Wine pairing: '11 Lange Twins Moscato

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful! The Moscato set off the cheesecake perfectly.

Four Winds has these wine dinners about every other month. This is the second one that my wife and I have been to and we will be back!

Now, if the fact that Four Winds was the Southeast Truck Stop in another life puts you off, like the reviewer below, you're just going to have to miss out. It doesn't look a truck stop anymore and the food certainly doesn't taste like any truck stop food I've ever eaten. And since I was a long haul trucker, again in a former life, I know from truck stop food!

Absolutely love this place. We usually go for breakfast on Saturday and have never been disappointed! The quiche is very good and a personal favorite is the crab and asparagus eggs benedict. My mouth is watering! The prices are reasonable. My only suggestion is bigger slices of fruit. Great place!

I'm a regular customer at Four Winds and have been very pleased with the food and service. Everything is fresh, the prices are within reason and they don't overcook the seafood and steaks. The blueberry bread pudding is wonderful.

OVERRATED!!!
This used toe be a truck stop and the owners did dress it up but it is NOT a gourmet restaurant! The owner never went to cooking school and it shows. He probably picked up some cooking magazines and tried his hand at making some of the recipes at his home but that is about it. The place is clean and the tables are close so one can hear everyones conversation.

I had mussels marinara with herbs on one occasion. This was the main meal. There were about 30 mussels but about a pound of basil and who knows what other herb plants. I spent my time digging through all this jungle of plant trying to find the mussels. By the time I was finished eating the mussels I was so angry with all that basil and plants. Guess the cook/owner thinks more is better which is typical of truck stops. When I was finished the waitress asked why I didn't like my meal since I left the 'salad" and I politely told her that herbs are used to garnish a dish not to make it. Imagine eating mouthfuls of basil with a little mussel. YUCK. I paid 13 bucks for this.

Stay away from this place. Most of the people who go to it are people who live in the neigborhood and are country people who may go out once per year and don't know any better. Their typical restaurant is a Golden Corral or a Mayflower's all you can eat calabash shrimp on a tuesday night. Trade Winds is NOT a gourmet restaurant. The cook needs to make application to Chef Ramsey for Master Chef to learn something or go to a culinary school in New York. To pretend to be something when your not is deceitful and I don't know how the guy can go to bed at night thinking he is something that he most certainly is not.

Other meals are just as goofy. Grouper with salsa. I can grill a grouper on my grill and then open a jar of salsa and put a tablespoon or two of salsa on it. This is NOT gourmet cooking but your typical truck stop mentality that you find at a T & A.

Good Luck and the owner/chef should try his hand at organic farming.
