Three of us went to Ichiban for Christmas Eve dinner. What a disappointment. We had not been since 2019 and we were so looking forward to going again. We arrived and the place was bustling with business and it felt like old times. We had a reservation and were only delayed by a few minutes because it was the holiday and they were busy. We were seated and all seemed great, they took our orders brought the soup and salads and all was great. Then our table side cook arrived and began to cook. This is where it all went downhill. The magic was gone. The little plates of sauces were poured. The Yum Yum sauce looked white, not the rosey pink I remembered and it tasted like watered down Mayo. There was no Ginger sauce any more the only other option was teriyaki sauce. The cook over cooked all the meats from what I could see on the cooktop. No medium only well done. The shrimp laid too long on one side and was hard and sort of crispy. I thought upon taste that the shell was still on, but it wasnt. My filet was overcooked and not good. The chicken was overcooked and tough. One in our party was not served any veggies and one in the other party was given his. We over looked it as the cook was done and leaving the table. The food actually tasted bland. The lack of good sauces was a real downfall. So we decided it is just best to remember the good old days of pre covid and never return.
