Novel down below of a rough evening. A grueling 3 hour wait for Texas Roadhouse.

Never going back.

We checked in around 6:45 and reserved a spot (supposedly).

Huge line of people, when we walked inside, both sitting and standing, awaiting tables. Understandable given the holiday.

Front desk let us know that they'd text us when a table for 2 opened, which they estimated to be in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, maybe 2 at most.

We agreed, gave them our cell number and then waited in our car, which was stationed in the back of the restaurant due to limited parking. It was a cold and windy evening outside, and it would get colder as the sun set.

About 5 minutes later, we received a text reiterating that we were on the waitlist and if we wanted, we could cancel whenever.

We sat and killed time on our phones. Our bums hurting as time passed slowly. Nearing hour 3, in the parking lot, my wife called the restaurant. She was on hold for 7 minutes before we decided to go inside. (What an awful earworm song they play while you are on hold.)

I told my wife, "Don't hang up."

We went inside hoping to get a gift card or an apology at the very least.

The long line we'd seen hours before was gone. No one was waiting inside.

We went up to the counter and asked for the manager.

I took notice that no one bothered to answer the ringing phone, which we hadn't hung up.

A young lady at the front desk (four ladies sat there staring at screens) said she would give us a free appetizer and that a table was ready.

I couldn't talk for a moment (I felt upset and suffer from GAD, so speaking is especially difficult in crowded environments).

Before I could think of a response, we were led to a table next to the restrooms.

I asked the waitress for the manager that was above the one we saw at the front. I'm going to have to be one of those people, I thought.

Another manager came in (a young guy, bearded), called me buddy and blamed us for not doing the check-in correctly.

What? We never got a text, I thought to myself.

In fact, a table seemed to be waiting for us, for who knows how long, but we never got word of it. Why am I the one being attacked?

He offered a free appetizer.

My face was flush and he could tell even with my mask on.

My wife and I felt forgotten and disrespected, having just waited in the cold for 3 hours.

I argued my side, but I didn't think I should have needed to argue.

At this point, I wanted the meal to be free... complimentary, which may have been demanding a lot, I know. I was just so upset.

After this, he offered the appetizers again and a significant discount. He didn't specify how much.

I relented. My wife deserved to eat already. She had been through enough.

I felt so upset I couldn't eat, and only had a few bites.

I ordered the cheapest cheese-less thing on the menu (due to lactose intolerance).

Halfway through our time spent at the table, my wife noticed that they still hadn't answered the phone.

She finally hung up. It had been 20 minutes.

We took a lot of the meal home as my wife filled up on a tray of appetizers. The apps were mostly cheese filled or too spicy for me.

Either way, my stomach hurt after.

For the rest of the night and this morning, I kept thinking, managers shouldn't blame customers for their own mistakes.

Especially, when it's your first encounter with a customer that feels wronged.

Waitstaff weren't the problem last night, in fact, they were amazing. Management was...lacking. I hope the other locations are run better.

(Also, the music or sound system seemed broken, too pitchy, which I probably wouldn't have noticed had we been seated earlier. Something was off about it. lol)

Again, I'm never going back and will never recommend this restaurant to out of town friends.

Seeing other reviews similar to my own lets me know that my wife and I weren't the only ones with the same complaint. A 3-hour wait is not reasonable when tables sit empty.

I even have evidence (a screenshot with a big 20 minute wait time) of the phone call that they never answered.
