Went there tonight for the first time. Really good. We spent 7 years in Germany and this was like being there. Will darken the doors again.

This place is incredible. I have been going there for several years now - even when it was Miss Mary's.

The food is usually incredible. I do not remember a time when there was not fried chicken on the menu and let me tell you Renate's friend chicken is out of this world! On very rare occasion (less than 1% of the time) I hit a piece of dry chicken. Usually it is moist and juicy and nearly melts in your mouth!

Friday night is the German buffet. Though I had never had German food before I quickly became a fan. She nearly always has pork schnitzel, sour kraut and bratwurst, red cabbage and apples, german potato salad. Frequently she will make spatzel (potato noodles) or those potato balls. From time to time she has rouladden ... a beef dish that is to die for! Sometimes she has rollbrauten - again, heavenly. And nearly every time I have been there has been apple strudel (usually with vanilla sauce). YUMMY!

Outside of Friday night the buffet is southern country home style cooking. Fried chicken nearly all the time, plenty of vegetables.

Now I have to tell you, if you ever see banana pudding on the dessert buffet then get it. Banana pudding mouse would be a better description ... light and creamy and fluffy. For 40 years I hated banana pudding until I tried hers and now I am hooked.

The buffet includes salad bar, meat bar, veggie bar, dessert bar AND a choice of coffee/tea/lemonade. She does have canned soft drinks available for an extra charge.

Simple put, the food is terrific. I have gone there for a long time. Okay, I cannot say that every trip has been outstanding. On rare occasions there might be a minor issue ... a piece of chicken a little dry, etc. But when I say rare I mean rare. I have yet to go to any restaurant where it is perfect all the time.

And be sure to check out the house. Renate had the house moved from its original location, she spent nearly 2 years fixing it up. The place is charming. Also be sure to go out back and look at the gardens and fish pond.

Plantation House and Gardens is a bit off the beaten path but well worth find. Great food, very friendly staff usually (okay, there is one waitress that isn't great but she is rarely there now), Renate is a darling lady, the building is full of charm and character ... you just have to see it for yourself!
