This is in response to Joyce and the catering event hosted by Down Home Elegance. Your business has been greatly appreciated and I deeply apologize for your unhappiness, however, as I am the person that was in charge of your event. I hold myself soley responsible for the incovenice. In our inital communication I informed you that I no longer worked as a volunteer emploee of Down Home Elegance due to my job relocation to Florida and therefore I tried to decline the proposal, but you insited that I be a part of the event in order for DGE to be the selected caterers for your organization. Your organization is considered to be highly important to us, so I arranged to fly in Soley for the purpose of serving you at my expense. I then negotiated with the manager at thaat time, a far below average price for the selected menu due to my attempt to retain your business and since you made me aware that you were trying to raise money for your church. Again, due to unforseen issues in the kitchen, which I made sure to keep you aware of, we were late, but not an hour, however, again...My apology. In the previous year, we arrived on-time and your organization memebrs were late and although we stayed the entire time, served all guests, including unaccounted for guests, cleaned the entire rrom which was also not calculated into the cost, again to assist with the final net funds to your church, and did this without addtional charges or complaint. Your last event you also had undersestimated the guest count, and we still served everyone without any addtional cost to you. At the end of the event, although we did not arrive on time, and I do realize the iportance of this, numerous members of your organization commended us on the taste and quality of the food. It is unfrotunately that we have to part however, Ms.Joyce, it is with my deepest apology that we are parting, but I do want you to know I did everything, other than be on-time this one time to assist your organization. As for the final pain in full statement, I sent it by mail prior to my return to Florida, so if it had not been received, I was never made aware.

I give you NO stars! This was the worst restaurant I've eaten at in years! My daughters thought they were taking me out for an evening of fine dining but instead I had nothing but disgust and headaches! We waited forty-five minutes for the waitress to return to our table to tell my daughter there were no pork chops available, so she orderd steak. After waiting another fifteen minutes she return to inform her that the cook found the chops!!! Mind you....WE WERE THE PATRONS!!! During our wait this one eyed bandit approached our table to informed us that our food was being prepared fresh; withing five BAM - it was there....seeming so they say although I was not able to pull the Mac and cheese apart. Chicken wings was cooked in old oil! I ask for several dessert...and was told..sorry only on Sunday! So I settled for sweet potato pie ( my favorite ), to go. This evening I decided to have my pie before going to bed, wrong answer! I went to open it, low and behold....the date was march first, 2013! Am I happy....I think YOU CAN ANSWER THAT FOR YOURSELF!

HORRIBLE!!!!! I actually felt sorry for the waitress because she could ell that we were unhappy with the whole experience...we wanted to leave but didn't because it was our first time and wanted to give it a try...WE SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT! The waitress burned the rolls we asked for...my sister ordered smothered pork steak and has to take stomach meds today to stop the pain; my MOM's dessert was well over due expiration date and the food did not have flavor. I read most reviews and most are positive...MAYBE THEY LOST THE COOK, OR IT WAS A BAD DAY, OR SOMETHING....i LIKE TO HELP THE SMALL BUSINESSES OR ENTREPRENEUR IN OUR AREA...BUT THIS ONE DID NOT GIVE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION! FAILED!!!!!

I want to say that I have eaten at Down Home Elegance many times and have always received courteous and respectful service. The food has always been great and extremely filling. I don't know who posted a negative response about this restaurant with my name on it. But my overall impression is that this restaurant has honest, dependable, caring staff who treat all customers like a close knit family. People who make these posts should not be cowards and write someone else's name on it.<br />

My church has used the catering service last year and this year - the price met our budget and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food This year , there was a big snafu due to the staff being over an hour late. The person in charge later shared there was a back-up with the pipes in the kitchen; however I was not informed ahead of time of the late arrival. This caused members to come to the fellowship hall and the food was not available for serving. The committee decided to seat the members and began serving the salad which was prepared by another person.They also decided to serve all of the members when the catering staff finally arrived.<br />
I spoke to the person in charge after the event and asked for some concession, but I was told the staff worked out of gratis and this was not an option. Have tried to communicate in regard to other options for concession, but have not been successful. The committee has decided not to use the catering services again. Also, still waiting to received the final invoice marked paid in full.

I was here on conference, and this was my first time visiting St. Louis. Down Home Elegance was reccomended by someone at my hotel, and I can't thank them enough. The retaurant atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious. The staff is extremely mannerable and clean. They serve your food with gloves. I had the fried catfish, mac & cheese, greens, and sweet potatoes. The German chocolate cake is delicious! The food was excellent. I highly recommend this place.

I am the Genearl manager of Down Home Elegance, and I just wanted to respond to the add posted by Trice. I first would like to apologize for any misunderstandings regarding the bill. I have had many issues with our system since it has been set up in the same manner as the gas station set up, meaning, when we run a debit card, the bank automatically holds a pending amount of 20% of the bill, this is not charged to your account, but is HELD in pending status until our bank wire transmits to the debit card purchasers bank. Once the wire has been transmitted which is about a <br />
48-72 hour process, the ACTUAL AMOUNT of the bill is then reflected. There is a sign that explains this at the register. We are a honorable company that values our guest to the highest, and I would never tolerate a guest being cheated. Again, my apologies to you, and I a assure you that if I was made aware of your complaint, it was addressed. I consider all of the Down Home Elegance guest valuable.

If you are looking for a home cooked soulfood breakfast, this is the place. The food was delicious and plentiful. However, you must be patient because the service is slow. It has a family feel all the way around.

The problem is that someone there is a thief. I went on Saturday, July 10, 2010 and purchased a fish dinner with an extra piece of fish and some peach cobbler. The cobbler was not in my bag yet I was charged so I went back and they gave me exactly $4 dollars back. My card was charged about $5 dollars more when I looked at my bank statement. Me being the fried catfish lover that I am, I ended up ordering an extra dinner but as a separate transaction and my card was charged $14 dollars and the receipt said $11. I can't find my receipts (I probably threw them away because I didn't expect to be cheated). Obviously they added additional money as a tip or something, I ordered carry out. All in all they cheated me out of at least $10 by over charging me and adding a tip. If you eat there pay with cash!!!!!!

I ate at Down Home Elegance the other day and the food was great. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and provided me with superb service. The food is so good. I will be coming back and I will tell others. The atmospere is warm and inviting. <br />
