GROSS! 🤑
03/01/2019 - A TRUE PIZZA LOVER
My first experience at Filippi's on India Street was in 1968. Menu was limited as it wasn't a very large dining area in the back of an Italian deli but their pizza, calzone and pasta dishes were all to die for! Went there as often as possible whenever my ship was in port. Filippi's was my last culinary memory before VietNam but upon return 3yrs later I was reunited with the best italian food on this planet! Various Navy assignments kept me away most of the time until '76 while living in Chula Vista, married with a toddler, we were thrilled to find Filippi's had expanded to Chula Vista. Alas, the Navy soon sent us to the East Coast and I was never able to get stationed back in SDiego before retiring in '88. But over the years, any time I was fortunate enough to get back to the SDiego area, for any reason - even if for only a day or 2, I always managed to have at least a meal and/or a pizza at the original Filippi's on India St. AND was NEVER disappointed. Retired to Florida for the last 30 yrs we still always stop in for a pizza or a meal whenever we get back out to SOCAL! A NY-er by birth, college for 4 yrs in Chicago and 24 yrs traveling with the Navy, I have had pizza literally from all over the world, Filippi's is UNSURPASSED and the 2nd best (a 'mom and pop' near Andrews AFB, Wash DC) is far behind!!!!!!
