I've eaten at Kona 5 or 6 times, and it's always not quite as good as I hope it will be. Most recently I ordered a sirloin "medium rare," which in my experience means "pink shading to red." It was purple. I actually couldn't eat it - it was like chewing gum. I took it home (I didn't have time to send it back) and put it on the BBQ for 15 minutes, and it was fine. Worse, the waitress, to whom I explained why I didn't eat my steak, NEVER APOLOGIZED.

I must say that all comments are exaggerated by people who are too critical and do not know Hawaii at all. This place was so welcoming and reminded me of back home in Maui. The double Mai tai is strong , but pricy at $10. Totally worth it for this drink!!! I recommend going when it is not busy. Our waitress was great, the food was great... this place deserves a good rating from one who knows!

the service sucked, the drinks were not strong at all and the food was failing miserably. overpriced as well! the only thing I ever crave there is the salad bar and its around 9-10 dollars which is unreasonable.

Even though we were the only two in the restaurant, we did not get our food for over half an hour.
The only other people there were two very loud and drunk men at the bar.
We were completely ignored by the waitress, and when my burger arrived, I found a plastic tab inside. It was one of the tabs used to keep bread bags closed. It said "Best by NOV 05" on it.
We were there on November 9th. I assume it was from the bag of buns they used for my burger.
We ate and left as quickly as possible, which also took some time because we were being completely ignored.
Will not eat again.

Outrageously expensive for what you get. Service mediocre at best.
