We have always loved Japanese Village and went there whenever we were in Victoria. The steak sauce has always been the best thing to have. My kids love it so much they have just drank the leftovers. We were a little disappointed that they weren’t open for lunch but thought we’d go anyways since it would be months when we could get back.
So 7 of us get there and order our food even with the outrageous prices we ordered. Each dinner is around &40 plus drinks. Salad comes and it was fabulous, then the soup came out it was brown like beef dip brown. I thought that was extremely weird but I tried it and it was so salty I couldn’t eat it. Then the rice came out and we all asked to have steak sauce on it because it is so good. I take some in my mouth and it too is extremely salty. The chef either dropped a bag of salt in it or he has bad taste.
I finally say that I can’t eat it because it’s so salty. The manager comes and gives me a new bowl of rice and says “you don’t like it then you just don’t eat it, you eat the teriyaki steak”. I tried to eat it but it totally lacked flavour at all.
So I’m pissed by this time and think that I’m not paying for this. Then our waitress comes up to me and says it was good to inform them of salty sauce and chef agreed it was also too salty. I think, great then I don’t have to pay for a meal that’s awful but when the bill came, no discount. Our bill is over $300 and so I say I want a discount on our bill at least my meal. She tells me “you ate the salad and ice cream and we take off 1/2 of your meal”. I said that’s crazy why are you charging me $20 for a salad and 1 scoop of ice cream. “But you’re taking some home with you” and I said I’d leave here but you need to take it off the bill.
I am so disappointed in this restaurant that seamed to have built a nice reputation and then they hope that people will keep coming back. I think they need to be careful or they are going to end up closing. If you are paying four star prices you expect four star food and service and they are not any better than a truck stop cafe.
