My husband Cuban aunts were amazing cooks. Holidays were extra special because of the extraordinary dishes they prepared. Meets, rice, black beans and a variety of root vegetables. Mi Havana, met and surpassed both my expectations and those of my husbands. His pork chunks were perfectly marinated, fired to a light crispiness. My fried flank steak, vaca frita, was moist with hints of lime. The black beans are good enough to eat by themselves and the garlicky yuca is tender, but not mushy, covered in red onions that have been pickled. The Cuban coffee is authentic, while the cheese cake and guava egg roll is imaginative and extraordinary. We can't travel to Cuba, but we can visit Mi Havana for a perfect slice of that legendary city and culture.

We come every 2 weeks. The Vaca frita is by far my favorite dish with a side of plantains.
