Haven't been in a while, thought we'd give it another try. Nope. Food still quite mediocre, while our waitress was pleasant we didn't see much of her. Would've liked more chips & drink. And, they were not that busy. The almost watery guacamole really could have used flavoring, same with bland refried beans. Shrimp was overdone, chicken enchiladas dry despite the tasteless thin cream sauce over Linda. Rice was ok. On checkout the person was more involved in chatting with another server; no hi, no how was your meal or was everything ok. They did interrupt their conversation a moment to give a brief smile when handing us our final receipt.

Definitely the last time for us.

Hello I just visited this restaurant and I ordered the taco salad. Must I remind you this was the second taco salad.well the first I just gave them the benefit of a doubt.and said maybe they left some ingredients out . Well this restaurant sucks.the taco salad was horrible it was not a taco salad it was A BEAN SALAD TWO small dice of tomatoes three shaving of lettuce and three shaving of cheese this was so so terrible I WILL NEVER RETURN this rating I would rate it a ZERO

Today I took my mother & great aunt to eat here. The foremost thing was being asked by the owner about my food & then him putting his phone in front of me asking "This is you, isn't it?" Nope. Not Sara Tucker. (See below whoever may be interested) That was really a surprise. Not so pleasant, but sorta amusing. And, I will add he gave his reasoning for the questioning, wanting to make sure things were good, he didn't want to lose customers, etc... But, I think he wasn't to sure about me not being that person. He lost site of asking my relatives about their food & asked more than once if that wasn't me. (I'm sure you're reading this - Hello - but, that was kind of uncomfortable. 😐 )

Anyway, this is the only Mexican restaurant I frequent when I'm in town (I do pick up Vilma's tacos occasionally, cuz they're the "street" tacos - I wish y'all made 'em!). I've been to Juan Amigos (too Tex-Mex, too light on flavors) & to Dos Loco Gringos (just no). This place has great salsa, great salsa verde, great guacamole! I'm stuck on beef fajitas, love them. Are they perfect every time? Nope, sometimes a bit overcooked & I can't seem to get my veggies well done. But, small issue obviously cuz that's what I'll get next time. I've had the enchiladas (very good), the queso chili relllano (they use a softer cheese I'm not accustomed to & I prefer a Ranchero sauce, but they're still good) & the beef milanesa (very good!). I like the food, the service was great (I believe I've had Sara's waitress before tho) & I will continue to go when in town & look forward to trying a few different dishes at times. Oh, & love the beans, rice & homemade flour tortillas!

Lastly, the quiet Hispanic waitress (I apologize for not ever getting your name), she has always been helpful, courteous & has a smile. Thank you to her & Candy as they generally have a table set up for us right by the door with chips & salsa waiting (my mother uses a walker, they see us slowly making our way in). We appreciate it!

Not Sara,
Teresa

Omg!!!!!! The food is terrible my son worked there they reuse the salsa from other customers the cheese has mold and they still feed it to customers the owner Fernando needs to be put in jail for pretending to be a good owner when in reality he's killing all of hope one day someone is going to die off something they ate there and when they do can't say I didn't warn u!!!!!!!!

Great food and service! I've been dozens of times. Fernando and his team do a fantastic job. His business is an asset to Hope.

I have been to this place 6, 7 times. Food's ok, but the service downright SUCKS!! A couple of months ago it seemed like the waitstaff was turning things around, they were pleasant & checked back with you several times. Went back a couple of times since - nope, waitresses were back to their non caring selves. A few days ago 3 friends & I went, after our order we didn't see waitress near us again, yet saw her several times standing around talking to another waitress. Once we had to take our empty chip bowls at kitchen entrance to ask for more chips, another time it was to ask for more hot sauce. When she finally came around it was to leave the check. She did ask if we wanted dessert - not if we needed anything else or if everything was all right. They need to wake up & realize their food isn't that damn good to make up for their crappy service!!

Up until about 4 months ago I quite enjoyed this place - other than the fact I could Never get my fajita veggies well done as I asked. Though the wait staff has always been poorly lacking in decent skills to seemingly downright don't give a s**t. A couple of months ago ordered the fajitas; no flavor, meat chewy & grey looking. Had half of one, explained to waitress, she told Mgt./Owner, I was told wouldn't be charged. When I got up to pay, the Mgr./Owner told the checkout person to charge me $3.99 ($2 off). So, had to call the Mgr/Owner over, had a discussion, he finally said "Oh, yeah, you're right. I was thinking of another. A couple of other visits were mediocre at best. The last visit I ordered fajitas again, again I requested veggies well done. Again, they weren't. What was overly well done was the meat. When we got the ticket I understood why. The waitress had written "well done" above the beef, not veggies. As I was paying I pointed this out to the checkout person (another waitress) and she just said "Oh, yeah. The cook did probably think it was the meat." As far as she was concerned that was it. I asked her "Don't you think the owner should be aware, or at least, the waitress?" She looked at like 'What for? ', then I guess something clicked & she said "Oh yeah, I'll tell her." The Owner doesn't' care, crappy waitresses, mediocre to crap food. As they don't care, we no longer care to eat there.

I have visited El Agaves several times. Unfortunately I came down with a terrible case of food poison a few months ago from the restaurant during a busy lunch. Lesson learned, they do not handle shellfish (shrimp) well during heavy loads on the kitchen. The wait staff has always been horrendous, but in a small town where there are few restaurants, you learn to deal with it. Last night was the straw that broke the camels back. The server was so obnoxious and rude, the dining experience did not start well. My wife ordered a lemonade form the menu. We were given several excuses as to why it was taking so long. Finally my wife said, "just bring me a water." The server was obnoxious and replied "your lemonade will be ready in a minute." True to her rude comment, she delivered a glass of lemonade and a straw within a few minutes. My takes a few drinks and we go about our dinner conversation. Another server approaches the table and says "did you take a drink from that? It was another customers refill..." While providing a new lemonade. I lost my temper. Demanded to see the owner/manager and proceeded to ask him what in the world was going on here. Interestingly enough, they didn't see what the big deal was. So, be warned, you may be drinking out of someone else's glass, eating left over chips and dip or the rice and beans may be from another plate that was left "untouched" and gladly re-used.

My family and I LOVE this place. This restaurant beats all the other Mexican restaurant in hope and its surrounding 100 mile radius. You definitely get what you pay for plus more!
