10/23/2013 - TREA
This is long, but if you are thinking of having an event at MGI you are going to want to read this!!!!
We had a vow renewal planned with Magnolia Gardens before they switched management over to The Event Group. We had taken a tour, asked our questions, looked over the contract with them, and paid our deposit. When it came time to signing the contract, we found out that the manager had gotten ill and was in the hospital. He told us to wait to sign the contract until he was on the mend. It might be a few days, but he would contact us when it was time. We got everything planned, bought, and ready in the meantime.
We had emailed in a few questions and gotten answers, then all of a sudden there was a new event group contracted through them. Even though we had already paid our deposit and had gone over the contract months before, they started changing things on us.
Originally we had talked to Patrick Bogart, who was in charge of events at Magnolia Gardens. We spoke to him about many different things including catering, times, dates, prices, policies, etc. He was absolutely wonderful, informative and helpful.
We told Shellie, who is in charge of The Event Group that is now in charge of Magnolia Gardens, all of the things we spoke to Patrick about, and the issue we had with him getting sick and us not being able to sign to contract. She REFUSED to honor some of the things Patrick and I agreed on that were in the contract we weren't able to sign because he was sick and when I asked to speak with the owners, she said they refuse to be involved in the day to day business. She told us we had to sign THEIR new contract to use the facility AND we HAD to have catering through them, even though we had previously agreed with Patrick otherwise and had already made arrangements to do so.
Shellie emailed us a couple days later asking us to sign their contract. We told her we needed a few days to talk things over and figure out our budget since so many things have changed, but that we were not saying we didn't want to have our event there, we simply needed to rebudget. We called and talked to Patrick, explaining the situation, whom we had been talking to previously and had the agreement with. He said that he talked to the owners and they couldn't do anything because they had a contract with The Event Group.
A few days later, we emailed Shellie asking for a menu of their catering service with prices, so that we could try and figure out our budget. She sent the information and did not say anything about our contract. Two days later, she emailed us saying that their policy required a signed contract in 5 days, that we haven't signed it so they are releasing the date. That's it. She didn't ask us if we were still interested, tell us they would be releasing the date if we didn't sign the contract, anything. No warning, they simply deleted our event. They are a NEW management group to MGI, how were we supposed to know what their policies were when we had not been dealing with them the entire time?
My husband immediately called them and told them we weren't backing out, all we needed was a couple days to look over the menu, and that they never told us we only had two days to do that. Shellie absolutely refused to work with us. She said she would NOT let us have our event there, even though we had already paid our deposit, because she did not want to have to “deal with” us. Then she said good luck and hung up the phone. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!
So now, 6 months before our vow renewal, with everything planned and ready, paid off, invitations paid for and already printed WITH MAGNOLIA GARDENS' ADDRESS on them, save the dates sent out, they are BACKING OUT OF THEIR AGREEMENT!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!
This planning stage is supposed to be a time filled with happiness and fun, but now it is full of stress and having to figure out a way to REPAY for things we already paid for AND find a new event venue, all because Magnolia Gardens did not feel like “dealing” with a customer who ALREADY PAID their deposit and had this planned well over 6 months ago.
ANYONE who is thinking of having an event here, I STRONGLY URGE YOU NOT TO!!!! This is not the same Magnolia Gardens that got all of the great reviews. They have sold out to an event group that does not care for the customers or events of the venue, all they care about is their money. They even refuse to uphold agreements. YOU CAN NOT TRUST THEM!
