6 of us attended high tea to celebrate a birthday. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The table was crowded and we could not talk comfortably across the table. However, once the 4 decorative teapots, flowers, and candelabra were removed we were fine.
Our waitress was terrible. She asked if we had allergies. One individual does have a severe (anaphylaxis level) allergy to a food additive. The waitress told her "just don't eat anything you're allergic to as we can't check all the food." Really?!!
Two of the teas were brought out. We asked to have cream and sugar, but were told she'd bring them out after all the teas were served. That would have worked better if they weren't staggered out over 10-15 minutes. It felt like forever. The first savory food was brought out before the remaining teas!
The food orders were a mess. The wrong sandwich was brought out and then had to be remade. 5 minutes later another person's food was brought out. Then several minutes later another person was served.... eventually the sandwich reappeared and we were told that completed the savory service, although one person was still not served.
Eventually everyone did have a pot of tea and a hot item. The person with an allergy was served an item of questionable safety for her - an automatically dressed salad - which she returned. I found it deplorable that they did not know/could not state what was in the pre-bottled salad dressing. Risking someone's health is unacceptable.
Our waitress had collected the plates and cleared them. Afterwards we got the tower of finger sandwiches, scones, and sweets. Sadly, we had no plates! We had to use our saucers. The sandwiches were fine. Nobody liked all the flavors, but everyone had some they liked. Scones were very small, thin, and dry. More like bad biscuits. The sweets were fine, but there were only 2 macaroons. So only a couple people were able to try them. And that was the theme for the sweets - 1-3 of each item for a table for 6 high teas.
It was very disappointing. Poor service with bad attitude, teas and food brought out over an extended time as if we were all eating separately and they were surprised we were at the same table, no plates, no consideration for a life threatening allergy, and a price tag that led me to expect much higher level of service.
I won't be back.

This place is beyond anything I have experienced. The decor; the ambience; the venue; the teas and afternoon platters and the Walbrook Room. This place ooze British taste meeting the US, the mix is spot on and with the English gentleman fronting the Ginger Room one can only say often imitated but never replicated this guy is the real deal!!
