very good food
09/16/2007 - Ireland in Boston
This being my forst time in boston I was of course looking for a fine Irish bar to wet my whistle during my stay there. Then I saw the Black Rose and thought, 'what the hell'. No only was I impressed with the atmoshphere which included a wall full of Irish sir names and thier coat of arms but irish flags hanging from the celing and a lovley bartender from guess where (Ireland) manning the taps behind the bar. She was of course sporting an accent and not the least bit inconvenianced when I asked about the pictures behind the bar which turned out to be noes who were shot by the English back in 1916 if I remember correctally for sighning the Irish Declaration of Independance. So as well as getting a history lesson I able to choose from a fine array of Irish beers on tap including the staples of Guiness, Harp, and Smithwicks. And of course I got a kick out of hearing the bartender say Lager with her accent. The food is not only fine but very well priced for a city like Boston. Clam chowder is among the best that I have ever sampled. Thier Lobster is awesome as well and as I said reasonalby priced. Fish and chips with scrod is also a delight for lunch with a nice black and tan. Along with this is music during the evenings with what I experianced both times was a solo acoustic performance of fine classic rock that provided a great touch to the place. Over all I would say this is a stop one should make for a fine casual atmoshphere whithout being trendy. Love the place and try the chowder cause you wont regret it.
