It's a damn shame that old NYC is dying & that the cancer known as gentrification is taking over everything. I hope that it stops at some point before homogenization has its way with the real people in NYC and not the lofty Upper Class in their ivory towers.

Hi! This was the Very Best Italian Restaurant my Family would eat at when I was a child growing up in the Bronx. My Aunt Angelina, Uncle Stevie and son Tommy Aiello who lived right down the block from this Wonderful place on Matthews Avenue, my Grandma Mary Manfredonia, my parents Joseph and Frances Poloso, my Aunt and Uncle and cousin I mentioned above and a bunch of other relatives who lived around "Gino's" ate there very often. My favorite dish was chicken parmesan with it's additions. We all dressed up in our best clothes when we went to Gino's and there were many laughs and Happy moments spent there with Family and Friends! It saddened me to find out a while back, that this Wonderful mostly Bronx Italian and Italian descent Family place closed and was replaced by a "fast food" pancake place. I still sometimes park and sit in my car on that block and reflect on the Great times we spent there with Family and Friends! We did eat at "White Castle," (still in service), on Tuesdays across from "Gino's" as kids, when we got out early from Catholic School because public school kids had to go to religious instruction that day, but Fridays or Saturdays were our "Gino's Family nights together! My 93 yr. old Mom Frances Poloso, Angelina's sister, who still lives in the Bronx, not far away from where "Gino's" stood, still recalls our Wonderful Family moments there! So do I! I remember having to really "dress up" when we went for dinner there, something "lost" by Families as time went on! So Thank you Gino and "Gino's" Family for many good Memories and GREAT FOOD!! You can take the girl out of the Bronx, but you can NEVER take "THE BRONX" out of this girl!!! Yes, Bless You Gino's Family for the Wonderful memories you gave ME and my Family!!! Sincerely, ~Janice Poloso~ ♡
