14 Family and Friends
I was surprised on my birthday with family and friends at the Whistle. When I arrived 2 guest sat at a table that seats 6. They were already eating when I walked in . 2 more guest arrived just before I. They joined them. The table I sat, seated 6 also. All seats became occupied. 1 more table seated 4, all occupied became occupied. (This includes two friends already at the bar that I hadn’t noticed was even there) Three tables total. The waitress informed us we couldn't sit separate. Although, that was the arrangement made prior to my arrival. I wasn’t there for that conversation. This lead to asking for a manager to explain the issue. The manager said the 4 people sitting at the table for four had to move.
The plan was to move my four guest to sit in the aisle with 2 chairs on the ends of the two tables that sat 6. Then seat two at a table of who had already began eating, a table already with a bill and that they do not know. They two guest were allowed to sit at a table that sat 6 and order without being asked to move. There was plenty of tables. Plenty of room for other customers. No reserved tables signs or booked parties for the night. No option to combine tables for 14 people. The manger’s only logic was “people could come.”
I have frequented this restaurant in the past years. Both in Oaklawn and Tinley park. I have seen customers sit at tables, stand in the floor, sit at the bar and never once on an EMPTY night see a manager squeeze anybody together.
Nobody else had to move from their table that held empty seats for a crowd that “could come.” Only us.
My feelings are hurt, surprise ruined for something so ridiculous. With no logical or professional explanation related to policy . People hadn't eaten. I never ever do the skin color cry. I don’t even write reviews. I normally just leave and just never go back. There is poor service and less than ethical business management everywhere regardless of skin color. And 80% of the time owners do not care.
But I felt targeted. For whatever reasons. It was unprofessional and insensitive.
I have reached out several time to better understand the actions of the manager and I have been completely ignored.
