I want to start by saying I was extremely excited to finally be able to try Lantern Pizza. The food reviews looked great and the pizza style looked exactly up my alley. When my boyfriend was finally home on leave from his military active duty, we decided to order online pickup from Lantern Pizza for one of our first meals together. We ordered two pizzas since the reviews mentioned the pies were on the smaller side, so one for both of us. Unfortunately, as my boyfriend was headed to go pick up our pizzas, his car was hit and totaled by a drunk driver. I called the restaurant once I heard about the accident and asked if they were able to hold the pizza since we would not be able to come right away as planned. As the conversation continued with the restaurant, the man on the other line seemed hesitant. I did mention that maybe I should just cancel the order since I had no idea when I would actually be able to pick it up. I ended up going forward with the cancelation since I had to go to the ER to meet my boyfriend.
My assumption, given nothing was mentioned on the website or on my direct call with the restaurant, was that I would receive a refund for the order since I did not receive the food. I waited 10 business days before reaching out to the business to ask about my refund in case it needed time to process. When I did call, I was placed on the phone with the owner. Let me say, I never received the pizza unfortunately due to our sh-tty situation, which was explained from the beginning to the restaurant. As I spoke to owner, she mentioned she remembered the situation and thought it was absurd I expected a refund for food I was unable to pick up. Her words was that it was not the norm for restaurants to issue refunds for food that was not received. However, there are plenty of restaurants who do offer refunds for orders canceled and I'm not sure why I was expected to know their unwritten policy. After going back and forth with the owner for over 5 minutes, nothing was solved. She refused to give a refund. I asked for a credit instead as a way to compromise and she refused to provide that as well. She was very rude and had an attitude the entire time. I'm sorry that life events happen, but I bought two pizzas for about $35, which is not cheap, and never once received them. I get restaurants have policies, but nothing was told to me or written on their website for me to see.
All in all, I will not be ordering again from this place due to it's AWFUL customer service. I highly recommend if Lantern Pizza is not going to give refunds or credits for purchases, they should state it on phone calls and on their website instead of expecting everyone to just know that is their policy. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service from this pizza shop. It's a shame, because I really was excited to try it out! But totally was not worth getting our car totaled over and a trip to the ER.
