An opportunity for the franchise owner of this Baskin Robbins to coach their staff in the basics of customer service.
Bottom Line: Customer service was horrific! A male employee, allegedly the senior employee present, said "you can get ice cream somewhere else."
Context:
Went in this afternoon after promising our daughter ice cream after soccer. She has celiac and thus is gluten free. We did our homework and researched the Baskin Robbins website to ensure they had gluten free items prior to arrival.
Entering the store, we voiced our child's medical condition and requested gluten free ice cream. The staff was incompetent in the knowledge of their product. They claimed their ice cream was "gluten conscious." What the heck does that even mean?
After explaining the Baskin Robbins advertising to them claiming gluten free ice cream and asking if it is or is not we get a brazen disrespectful comment from the employee, "you can get ice cream somewhere else." I immediately called him out on his meaning, and he clings to the easy emotional escape of "you are intimidating me."
Coachable Points:
1. Be polite and respectful not only to your elders, but all customers!
2. Know your product. Allergies and medical food related illnesses can cause significant damage to include death.
3. If you advertise it, be prepared to honor it.
4. The best for last. Don't confront people with harsh talk if you get intimidated so easily. You will have a long tough road in life, I promise!
