I would give this place a negative 10 if I could. Today was my daughter's 17th birthday and she wanted Thai food. Mai Tai advertizes "authentic Thai" cuisine so we wanted to try this place. What a let down!! In no way is this authentic. I know Thai food. I grew up in Thailand. I cook Thai food regularly. Upon arrival, the waitress was not very friendly. She pointed us in a direction to sit down where the sun was blaring. I asked if we could sit somewhere else. She lookked at us and said sit at the table next to it then. Red flag. When looking over the menu, there were a lot of items not available. This should have been the last red flag for us to leave, but she wanted Thai food and we were already there. The customer service sucked and they did not care about the quality of their food or our experience as guests. My grandson is 4 and we got the "fried chicken" and rice since there was no child menu. He got a really small portion of fried pieces of chicken that cost nearly 8 dollars. A small handfull of breaded chicken came out dehydrated and bland. His rice was hard like day old rice. I and my daughters ordered chicken satay and nom sod salad (Thai pork salad) for appetizer and to share. The satay was also overcooked and dry. The peanut sauce that came with the satay was gloppy and too thick with way to much ginger. The nom sod was "nom sad". It had no flavor or seasonings except for the fish sauce that they just poured over it. The plate was swimming in fish sauce. Instead of shredded lettuce or lettuce on the side, they had huge chunks of mushy lettuce. I ordered the panang curry with chicken. It came with 4 thinly sliced chicken pieces. the rest was like coconut soup and veggies with a little curry, but also really bland. Because I wasn't too happy with the curry, I thought maybe I'll order the beef salad since it sounded like it would have more flavor. Nope. The beef was boiled and not seasoned. It was sprinkled with pepper flakes and not Thai pepper. Again, the salad came out with big mushy chunks of lettuce and drowned in fish sauce only, no lime or herbs. Just one leaf of cilantro. When I brought this to my waitress' attention, she cared less. I told her that I only took one bite and did not want it because it was not good. I had my reservations that it was even edible. I explained to her that this food was not authentic like they advertised and I did not want it. I also stated that I knew she was Thai and she knew what I was talking about. And while I was explaining this to her, she agreed that it was not authentic Thai food, but this is how Mai Thai cooks their food and since I ordered it, whether it was good or not, I had to pay for it. I told her that they should not advertise that they make authentic Thai food and instead advertise that they make Mai Tai Thai food which is far from Thai food. She said that she is from Thailand and knows that this is not Thai food, but she was not going to remove the beef salad from my receipt. I asked for the owner (I believe she was the owner), she said the owner was not there. I asked for the manager, she said the manager left. I told her I would pay for the rest of the meal, I just really didn't like the beef salad since it was not good at all. She didn't care. She became more rude and raised her voice and said I had to pay. She kept saying, "You order the food, you pay for the food." There were tables on both sides of us and also infront of us. It was so embarrasing. I didn't argue with her. My bill came to $91.02. I did not tip her. Both of my daughters dishes didn't taste too horrible, but nothing close to Thai food- hot basil with beef (no basil what-so-ever) and the ginger lovers with beef (over-the-top ginger). We left and went home. Now i and my 17 yo have been in and out of the bathroom. Happy birthday to her right? This is the memory my daughter will have of her 17th birthday dinner. Nasty food and gross service and diarr...you know..💩 We will not be back there. I hope this review reaches everyone about this extablishment. Satay away!💀🤢😞

There is no Asian restaurant of any kind in the greater Columbia area or anywhere else that even comes close to how good this one is! To say this one is THE VERY BEST is a huge understatement!!
